Yes you can go somewhere else and get another opinion

I'll bet at least some of those repairs will be needed though, VTNZ has a habit of missing things in my experience.

thy want his$ 600

jason18, Jun 24, 3:35pm
What are the failures!

thunderbolt, Jun 24, 4:31pm
Some workshops offer a free WOF inspection with a service to get business.

ringo2, Jun 24, 4:43pm
Once you have had a WOF check all those faults are logged on the computer database for your vehicle so makes no difference where you go they will have to be fixed.

vtecintegra, Jun 24, 4:50pm
Only if they're actually faults.

valleystream, Jun 24, 5:09pm
Are you serious! Is this a Nationwide system/database!

mugenb20b, Jun 24, 5:10pm
Yes and yes.

vtecintegra, Jun 24, 5:11pm
So clean it then.I don't see the problem.

valleystream, Jun 24, 5:13pm
Well that's weird cos Hubby's 4 x 4 failed on some stupid minor things and passed at another place. Also happened to a friend of mine!

mugenb20b, Jun 24, 5:18pm
When the inspector logs on a "pass", he will get a list of what the car failed on too. When that was the case with your hubby's 4 x 4, the inspector may have made up their own decision that the car was safe and passed it. I've done it a few times myself. Other times, I have added to the "list".

valleystream, Jun 24, 5:19pm
Huh! Not sure what you're on about. It wasn't free!

valleystream, Jun 24, 5:20pm
Oh ok thanks. Yes they were very minor and quite odd as they had been like that for years, didn't affect the car and had passed on the same things for a long time. It was at a new WOF place. Thanks for your answer.

intrade, Jun 24, 5:23pm
nothing is free. you can take it somwhere else and pay the fee. When you get the same faults on the sheet of new wof place then you know the free wof was free. If however the faild things are all passed then the free wof was not free but 600$ and the guy with the free wof would have poketed the 600$ and passed your car without any work done to it as there was nothing wrong to begin with.

intrade, Jun 24, 5:26pm
also usually vtnz places fail stuff that is not broken not all are like this but most dont have a clue and are scared to pass things they so just fail it with no reason given. If something fails you have the right to see why it should be fail.

tgray, Jun 24, 5:29pm
The 2nd inspector will only see the previous fail by going to a particular screen. They will not automatically see the previous fail unless suspicious. You can go and get a second inspection, but will of course have to pay again.

mugenb20b, Jun 24, 5:50pm
The inspector will see it on a final screen when a pass or fail has been processed.

franc123, Jun 24, 6:46pm
It's actually two different screens that it shows up on, but hey we better zip it at that, we don't want the great unwashed knowing too much about how WOFonline works and how much info we do and do not have access to.

johnf_456, Jun 24, 6:48pm
What more do you want to know tgray, I am happy to let you know more.

lovemore_mbigi, Jun 26, 6:37am
What are you whining about! These items are only minor rectification jobs.

gadgit3, Jun 26, 6:42am
Clean the head lights with a good polish.
The door needs adjusting so as it shuts without needing to be slamed or lifted.
The dash is just an excuse for a fail!
Tyres are a givin
Rear brakes get 'em checked by someone that dose brakes.
But I think you should have the points from the other wof looked into.
Like the inner rack end play. The rack ends are only round $35 new and this is part of you steering if it comes adrift your car is going to pull you off the road or on to on coming cars.
The power steering belt also $35 genuine and not so much a major but makes it very hadr to steer round town if it dose let go and it could take out your water pump/alt belt also and cause engine damage.

gadgit3, Jun 26, 6:53am
Yea we use a good abrasive polish to cleen the uv damaged headlights Jiff also works.
Rear pads are round $74 genuine but I would say you have a seazed caliper.

gadgit3, Jun 26, 7:01am
Yea just the outside of the light.

Tonys tyre srevices are good

Yes on the quote and mention it may have a seazed caliper. A caliper is the thing that pushes the brake pads together.

gadgit3, Jun 26, 7:15am
Well depending on how compadent the repairer is. It could be a simple half hour job remove unseaze and grease sliders or it could get ugly and need a seal kit and piston then it could get up round $250-300.

spead, Jun 26, 9:03am
failed wof data is entered on a national data base.
