Am getting an insurance repair and a small non-insurance repair ($280+) on an 05 mondeo, the panel beater said 3-4 days for both to be done, it's now been nearly two weeks.
Would you ask for a dsicount off the quoted price for the non-insurance job!

non insurance job you dont have to get it fixed there. for starting with.

asking for a discount for a quoted price! you probably find the price wont go down but up from what is quoted unless it was a fixed agreed quote no smallprint. You cant ask for no discounts after and its 2 weeks! he said 3 to 4 so thats another week to 2 weeks to go still.

Sounds to me like you were given a discounted price, and they were able to do this by working on your car during quiet moments in the workshop.
Rushed paint jobs always look bad anyway. At least there'll be plenty of time for the bog to dry.

It was two birds with one stone, why would i fark around and not get the small job done at the same time, I was happy with the quote at the time. I would rather let them get on with the job but the time taken has now doubled.

Ring em and ask what the story is. Might have had staff sick etc and has run outta time

If its an insurance claim contact your insurance company as it will be them that's paying that part of the bill. They can haggle for any discount on their side.

its not a shop in manukau is it! This shit goes on too often with panel shops. Usually the not so reputable ones who do it and give the industry a bad name. No point ringing and asking much as the person at the end of the phone will bullshit and make up any excuse they can think of. .insurance company is holding us up, painter was sick, we had a couple of staff members leave, the dog ate your car etc etc.they have bullshit on tap. bad luck on your choice of shop next time ask around and get advise from others on who to use

I've learnt never let a panel beater know that the job is any less than urgent because they will take ages and still charge you the same!

Bit of a narrow generalisation there Brad.
There could be many reasons for a delay. Additional damage found after dismantling, Part availability, The claim has not been approved.etc, etc But all that aside , why has the PB not informed the Op , the reason for the delay !

[But all that aside , why has the PB not informed the Op , the reason for the delay ![/quote]
Has OP asked!
And why are you taking so long marcos!
brad166,
Jun 24, 3:46pm
Not too much of a generalisation really. Been in the trade over 15 years and seen it all happen far too often. If the shop was straight up and had a reason they would be in touch with the owner and let them know! NOT wait for the owner to ask and then feed them a bullsit excuse

15 years huh.I guess ya know it all then !pmsl
I learnt all the tricks off you lookoutas.lol

Have seen soo much of the crap that goes on when telling owners stuff about how long it is taking to get their car back. Maybe havent used quite as many of the tricks you probably have about why ou cant get a job finished though by the sound of it, but I never put an impossible time-frame on the jobs I did

I always drew the line at outright lying to the customer and would generally try to have a day up my sleeve. There are a few genuine reasons the OP's car might not be ready but some communication would be nice. I don't see why a discount would wind back the clock and make it all OK, in fact the longer it's there the more it's cost.

We always inform a customer if there is an unforeseen delay. And the rule of thumb is no bullshit. If you are straight up with a customer, most understand the reason for a delay. You will always get the occasional prick who lacks comprehension tho. Sounds like you have worked in a few substandard shops Brad
lookoutas,
Jun 24, 4:19pm
There could be a good reason , but posting on here looking for Kelvin Cruichshank to answer, probably isn't the best approach.
Find out OP!

Just the one substandard one Marcos. Was there for 3 months before banging my head against the wall hurt too much to stay. The other 3 were top quality shops and for that reason I didnt move around like a lot of painters do.
lookoutas,
Jun 24, 4:23pm
You're a painter - so you must know it's always your fault.
brad166,
Jun 24, 4:26pm

marcos1,

brad166,
