Yes, the Honda-based PG1 is near it's limit with 200hp/~180 lb.ft, but standard cars are fine. Problems do arise when people up the boost a little though. Torsen LSD as standard is quite nice though.
Not my particular engine of expertise, but generally some minor head work, forged pistons and rods allows some more boost which gets you up around 400 without much trouble (although, as above, gearbox does become an issue, not to mention torque steer). 900 hp is, of course, somewhat more expensive. The car I'm aware of pushing out that much holds the UK FWD 1/4 mile record, and is a track car only. T16 turbo is a very common engine transplant for Rover 200/400 MG ZR/ZS etc.
