louweez1, Jun 15, 12:50pm
they are ok cars but i dont like coupes. i want something that drives nice, sticks to the road, has power (need it for the hills i drive) sounds nice, manual! has to be a manual!

moosie_21, Jun 15, 12:53pm
Ok, good start. Now go through most of the makes on here and pick out a few that pique your interest. Need to get back to work, so others will be along soon to help you!

If I didn't already have one, I'd be buying an MGF VVC, or possibly two for $10k.

Given I already have one, I'd probably be looking at an MG ZS V6, pref the 04-05 facelift. Best handling FWD car I've driven, just fantastic.

mgmad, Jun 15, 2:12pm
Or, maybe, a Rover 220 Tomcat - they go quite well, and are quite nice. Also dirt cheap. Even a 620ti with the same 200hp engine goes very well, and also very cheap in NZ. Handle well, but not as good as the MGF or ZS, but cheaper.

louweez1, Jun 15, 3:05pm
oh this would be my 'fun' car. have a van for daily use!

louweez1, Jun 15, 3:22pm
i quite like that one thejazz!

bubbles52, Jun 15, 3:36pm
buy a toyota hilux 4x4, the have good resale value and you can sell it easy to these guys http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3191/2297875410_fe4cdce9ea.jpg

thejazzpianoma, Jun 15, 3:36pm
They are a hoot to drive too!
Lots of great kit too like a voice controls for the radio etc.
Just remember you need around 2003 or newer to get a manual one. All older ones are selespeed with flappy paddles (not the greatest) and all the newer ones are manual.

They are not ultra reliable but bits are cheap and if something is going to give trouble its usually a non-essential item that can be dealt with as and when you want. Its usually stuff like seat occupancy sensors etc that will give you grief if you have any and that sort of stuff is easy to sort yourself. Plenty of help on the Fiat Forum's etc.

But really the manual later ones are pretty good and thats still a pretty new car which helps reliability wise too. Well worth taking one for a drive.

All the Brevis's I have seen seem to have the D4 engine which most mechanics are saying to avoid. But yes, a 3 litre Brevis looks very nice for 10k.

mugenb20b, Jun 15, 4:04pm
You've got to be kidding. Their engines are awful, they rust, rattly pieces of $hit.

rovercitroen, Jun 15, 4:06pm
For $10k my personal choice is a late 90s Jaguar XJ8 or a BMW 528i or possibly a higher km 530i for $10k ish.

rovercitroen, Jun 15, 4:12pm
My F.I.L. had an early 90s Toyota Grande MK2 RWD with the 3 litre straight six for many years until it met its end recently in an unfortunate accident a few weeks ago. I drove it about once a year and I was always pleasantly surprised how nice it drove. Smooth, peppy, nice sounding engine, good steering. Very quiet and smooth on the road. comfy seats. So if a Brevis is a newer generation of that then it must be a lovely car.

bubbles52, Jun 15, 4:13pm
what does peppy mean! sounds kinda gay

rovercitroen, Jun 15, 4:15pm
Give us a kiss and I'll tell ya!. Nah. I guess it means powerful enough but not really grunty.

mgmad, Jun 15, 4:15pm
The engines are pretty strong and have heaps of torque, what's not to like! Also plenty of tuning potential, very common/cheap to mod in the UK - plenty of 400-500 hp cars and the odd one over 900hp.

Sure some rust, but by no means all. I admit they're not perfect, but any poorly looked after car will have rattles, tomcat's no more prone to it than any other car.

foxdonut, Jun 15, 4:17pm
10k doesn't buy much.

Probably an older VR6 Golf in reasonable nick and pocket the rest.

bubbles52, Jun 15, 4:19pm
buy a toyota starlet and have plenty of change left over for an overseas trip

_peas, Jun 15, 4:41pm
You have also left out that they like to sh!t their gearboxes.Don't go near them. and they are only getting older.
