Alright I'm looking for a new car.I'm thinking about an evo 6 but a bit boy racerish for me these days. I've always had quick cars until recently (bought a house) nd now I want something with plenty(the more the better) of power to pass, good handling, enough room inside for me (6' 5"), nice styling, preferbly 4 door but not essential, safer the better too. both town and open road driving I don't particularily wont a bouncy or loud car. I'm not fussed on a make but I cant be bothered looking through every listing. I dont really want to spend a fortune would like to keep under $25k. but list off some options above or below. commodore- nah, falcon-nah, sti-nah what else! 8cyl-yes, 4cyl turbo-yes, cyl turbo yes, diesel with enough power maybe. name something- anything

BMW 540i Msport 2000 onwards! Safe and fast, great to drive too. Plus it has plenty of useable torque, better ride quality and is comfier than any Evo I have ever ridden in.

yeah a good mates had one for 10 years, we did think seriously about getting one but they're 20years old now though and only midgets can fit in the back. Mind you he paid 30 for his 10 years ago so they're holding their value well.

I would go for a Mazda6 MPS over the Mazda3/Axela MPS - same engine, except the 6/Atenza has AWD as opposed to the 3/Axela's FWD. Must go for the 6 speed manual too. It wont feel as nimble as an Evo6 but it can still throw its weight around, the extra interior space of the 6 is a bonus considering the 6 is only a smidgen bigger than the 3 on the outside anyway.

Hey in that listing they say it has an lsd! The one I drove suffered horrendous torque steer. I figured they didnt have an lsd g/box !

How about a Galant VR4!
Sure its going to depreciate but they're pretty cheap to buy anyway so it shouldn't be such an issue

The A4 yep I thought only the s4 were the grunty good looking ones. The golf my wife would love but not relly my cup of tea The BA falcon nah doesn't do much for me The caldina yeah thats nice RS4 HELL YES but yeah still a bit much Mazda 6 not really me VR4 nup I'd just buy an evo Maybe a legacy but that model looks like a ford telstar So A4, S4, RS4, Caldina gt 4, msport bmw so far.

When I buy a car I will try to also think of the resale, the top models are what everyone wants so they hold their value better, ie evo resale compared to vr4 sti compared to wrx, gtr compared to gtst, and they are easier to sell usually. But also spend $30k and it leaves you in the position to basicly have to trade because not a lot of people spend 30 grand privately when you want to move on.

not new, and hard to find in good nick, but they appreciate rather than depreciate- 1996-2000 Toyota Supra RZ 3lt twin turbo, 6 speed manual, plenty fast, good for a tall driver, sticks like shit to a blanket in the dry, and is all over the show in the wet. what more could you want!

Appreciate really! I think they were about 65-70k new so how much are they worth now!
gunhand,
May 29, 6:12pm
94 to 96 about 30k it seems, prob not bad considering it may be 17 years old.

Yep not bad money for the age but by my calculations that is still depreciation. You have to spend some serious money or get ya hands on something pretty rare for it to appreciate in value, most cars are just plain money pits!
