google doesn't give much as to the genuine 302 however claim can be laid to.http://v8racecar.wordpres- s.com/2010/01/02/allan-moffats- -1969-trans-am-boss-302-mustan- g/ In 1969, Ford teams claimed a fully race-prepared Boss 302 engine was producing over 470bhp (350kW) by mid season and could endure up to a staggering 8000rpm in the heat of battle. Mustang racers often complained that the Boss 302 had inherited some of the Tunnel Port??
add ole **Smokey Yunick** and a 302 chev and a race program and we see 458 HP from the 302 @ 7200 RPM.! http://www.camaro-untoldsecrets.com/articles/crossram.htm pull that out to9 and yeah it's a naturaly aspirated 302 chev engine pulling a shite load more neddies than a 327 or 350.The actual factory crate engines were reputedly 670. hard to find details but non the less the 302 was a *unique* bore and stroke combination.

Be aware there was a point where they stuck IDAS on one factory.

the 458 horsepower is 66 67 so.In 1969, Ford teams claimed a fully race-prepared Boss 302 engine was producing over 470bhp (350kW) by mid season and could endure up to a staggering 8000rpm in the heat of battle there are a few wee oh too secwets out there. Actually if the same 5 litre class included the 327 well-they are BOTH screamers in terms of bore and stroke-however the rulings and classes made it the 5 litre 302 that well-as stated.

Yip ole smokey was also one of mine own tutors-I.E Best DAMN garage in town Back To Basics and at the end of the day you have read an article about 2 back to back wins 66 and 67 and a basiacly factory 302 pulling 458 neddies-now we don't know if that is flywheel or RWHP neddies-However certain engines have inherrent characteristics and a given bore/stroke combination WILL produce latent con rod accelleration and given a camshaft profile and breathing the ability to produce the PEAK horsepower AGAIN comes down to the bore and stroke combination therefore when as the thread title STATES looking at engines the 302 is (and always WILL be a 302) and again it's unbiased a 302 chev is basiacly a 302 ford.

Hot Rod (US) did a crate engine drag racing test test some years back - throw a crate at a medium size car with a few mods and see who was best. I think the Dick Landy Mopar kicked arse big time.
Had a 360 in a bucket years back & its a great engine. Currently have 302W in a T coupe & its nowhere near as good.
but people always have their brand favourites, so it doesnt matter what the other guys think.

Landy ate the chev and ford offerings. He used the Duster body, the Chev people used a 69 Camaro & Im pretty sure the Ford guys used a Mustang.
Landys car was the cheapest, the fastest and the quickest.

Landy used more than just the duster (95% Mopars) and he had the best team of people that made great tools to help speed up pitstops etc.
I put him in the same class as leo (another Mopar man) from new zealand because they think outside the norm

My friend in USA had his blown 498ci (i think) Mopar built by Dick Landy, it makes 1100hp & is in a Ranchero ute called "FOPAR".
