lpg is a pain in the arse. lose the tank and regain some bootspace.

franc123, May 20, 7:10pm
It may do, get an accurate costing for whats required to get the system up and running again and warranted.Based on 6-700 km a week its probably feasible, if you were only doing 100 or less then forget it.The economics of LPG in NZ have been a hell of a lot worse than they used to be in recent years thats for sure.

tara101, May 20, 7:18pm
Shoparound service stations to get the best price. It varies, BP $1.69 and Shell $1.33 a litre. Also inquire at rockgas.

guider1, May 20, 8:41pm
I think LPG is worth it. Mate dedicated his bigblock chev powered HZ Prem. It was really economical yet still reeled off 12.6's down the quarter in full street trim (same as he drove it through the gate), full exhaust & street rubber.

mrfxit, May 21, 6:51am
Agreed.
Partly depends on what needs doing to get it running again
Condition of the Lpg gear AND your vehicle
Average total km's per month.

If everything is in good condition & you are doing fairly high km's, then it will be well worth it.

petermcg, May 21, 10:40am
You sure that wasent 16.20

rkauto, May 21, 3:21pm
lpg $1.12 petrol $2.16,im pretty happy saving over a dollar a litre

dvince, May 21, 4:03pm
Not exactly, you're using about 30%-40% more fuel.

mrfxit, May 21, 4:10pm
REALLY . LOL.

Most use only slightly more then petrol
Some use LESS (falcons are famous for that)
Some use the same amount

Some gain HP & some don't & some loose.

Pretty much a mixed bag depending on vehicle & condition.

dvince, May 21, 4:31pm
Really! LOL
"Ford's dedicated-LPG Falcon XT, for example, uses a claimed 14.9L/100km compared with 10.5L/100km for the petrol XT."
www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx!ArticleID=60920

And Fords new EcoLPI system isn't on sale yet :P

mrfxit, May 21, 4:36pm
key word being CLAIMED .

Bit different in the real world.
Everybody I spoke to at the time were VERY happy with the performance compared to what they were getting on petrol.

roys351, May 21, 4:36pm
i took my lpg xd ute off the road to paint it now driving xbon petrol. costs me twice as much cant wait to finish my ute i know i cant expect good economy from the xb but the xd is only 4 years younger. i put a ea on lpg and got realy good savings . its pretty rare for a tank to fail a retest . i am most definatly a fan of lpg

dvince, May 21, 5:06pm
Yes, CLAIMED. by the manufacturer i.e Ford

Please provide test results showing (as YOU claimed) the famous LPG falcon using less fuel than the petrol model.

Hey, im not denying an LPG system is cheaper to run

roys351, May 21, 6:14pm
you are certainly leaking something from somewhere

dvince, May 21, 6:37pm
Yeah sure, try taking your blinkers off.

First ref #11
Next: "An increase in fuel consumption of around 30% to 40% should be expected when operating on LPG."

Many more links like this.

But hey, you're more than welcome to prove your half-baked stories. But ill believe my sources untill you prove me wrong.

You should get that tank leak tested aye :)

roys351, May 21, 6:57pm
the only proof i need is what is left in my wallet . i know for a fact i am saving 50% as i ran the ea on petrol before i put it on gas most of my travel is hiway maybe thats the difference its not worth converting unless you can do most of it yourself ea cost me $500 to convert and was worth more when i sold it .if you dont like having extra money stick with your unproved believes

xs1100, May 21, 6:58pm
heres another lpg Q i heard ages ago that lpg had a higher octane rating than petrol is this true, was winding mrs up the other day about getting a V8 that was on lpg and she said "just not right"

roys351, May 21, 7:08pm
lpg has a higher oct but unless you get a hi performance kit you will not notice as most kits are made for economy

dvince, May 21, 7:46pm
Fair enough, LPG is cheaper to run (I already said that in #14). I'm talking about FUEL CONSUMPTION.

Tho im confused with the cars you are comparing. 4.1 XB vs 4.1 X-flow XD vs 3.9 EFI EA! <-- is that right! Or V8's! Huh! If I was driving cars from the 70's and 80's, I wouldnt be worried about fuel economy.

Im not sure what you mean by my "unproved believes"
Here from Fordnz: www.ford.co.nz/servlet/ContentServer!cid=1248891406252&pagename=FNZ%2Fcontroller&c=DFYPage
9.9 (91 RON) vs 14.9 (LPG) L/100km same car ;different fuel system.
Understand that!

dvince, May 21, 8:16pm
Man, if I could have converted my EF Falcon for $500, I would of LOL. I was quoted $3.5k (more than what I paid for the car!)
Instead I down-graded. Darn fuel prices! I miss the extra power (not the floaty handling)

franc123, May 21, 8:21pm
Its a pretty well known fact that LPG has a higher octane rating, but has a lower calorific value, therefore more of it gets used to do the same job, in terms of km/l, more litres are used, about 20% in most cases. In terms of output it means a bit less power but often the same or even slightly more torque.dvince is correct in this thread in most cases.

xs1100, May 21, 8:40pm
so even if it costs slightly more surely the price per litre makes it far more attractive considering that petrol prices will never go down considerabiliy again and then when you look at something like the vx cruisers the price differance between petrol/diesel is huge and yet they say you can put a couple lpg tanks in the underfloor sparewheel compartment so getting the power and service intervals of petrol and not being charged the RUC and the likes of diesel cheers for info

roys351, May 21, 8:42pm
xb non xflow xd x flow both 4.1 2.92 diffs ea 3.9 multipoint injection dont know what diffwas way too new for me. as i have saidlpg saves me heaps thats all that matters to me

movnon, May 21, 8:52pm
years ago when cng & lpg conversions were all the go, lpg was definitely the pick- long distance between fuel fills, lower fuel costs, better performance than petrol - BUT all these improvements depended on the quality of the installation & the equipment used. Dedicated LPG systems are the way to go on the whole IMO.

dvince, May 21, 9:11pm
The LPI (Liquid Phase Injection) system looks promising. Ford will release their EcoLPi Falcon soon: www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/5F22BAEE86CA1663CA257868000F6225
Depends on how well they market it, I guess. That or the 4 banger EcoBoost LOL
