Great wee car and motor. Have seen a few with very high Kms and still running strong.

The only issue with those cars is rust like any car of that age but those things just go and go and go. Not to mention how easy they are to fix, but make sure you check it out good.

that's a high price for a fairly basic car. No doubt it will be reliable and cheap enough to run, but $1500 should be able to get something less than 20 years old, not a 22 year old car.

Sounds positive. Will hope for the best when i go to see it. Im not expecting a new car for the price obviously but hoping it was looked after enough and anything that needs fixing, i can do myself.
Cheers guys.

great car these are the good and bad. cheap to run and fix and keep goin. but . you can use almost any japanese key to unlock and start them and 1500 is very expensive for what it is. i would fork out round 800 for this

Agreed, Lasers were great cars in their day and are as good as anything else similar in their size and price bracket but its sad that people see fit to still ask (and seem to get) such high prices for cars that are so old, have such basic equipment and safety levels and are not particularly desirable at face value.Certainly five years ago vehicles like this would have to be below a grand to get much interest.People have got to be seriously paranoid about fuel prices to be paying well into four figures for smallish 80's and early '90's cars, if they jump up into the midsize bracket there is far better buying to be had.

Not to mention that the sellers think they are cheap bargains!

Heck thats low mileage jazz!
antz91,
May 18, 6:38pm
Wicked. Will check it out tomorrow since they are just down the road. But would they be the same size as a daihatsu charade!
I went there to check out a daihatsu charade they had but i couldn't fit in it.haha.

The laser was a good car , if you could get the punto for not much more, that would be a bettercar. might be a few more dollars though.
thejazzpianoma,
May 18, 6:39pm
No, a bit bigger than the Charade from memory. The Fiats are always roomier inside than you would think. Any chance of going as high as $2500! There is a real cracker I have had my eye on for a week or so. Its out of town but I reckon its well worth the trip as its an absolute bargain.

I have a 1989 Laser (1.5L GL), have to agree. It has only done 139000km but I am struggling with rust now and have started looking for a replacement.
Bit of a bugger as it goes well, but have to agree with other people's comments about this one being a bit on the pricey side for something that old!
johnf_456,
May 18, 6:52pm
I agree, this sort of car should be under 1k easily for what it is. IN this current market old cars sure have gone up in value. Some of the FIats jazz is posting is actually very decently priced, but been an auction they can go for anything.
antz91,
May 18, 6:52pm
That looks like a pretty sweet deal. But i don't think i could probably go that high. Maybe $2000 max.
Will definitely check out your above suggestion tomorrow though.
thejazzpianoma,

Sweet good luck! Also. why not throw a cheeky offer of 2K at the Brava, they can only say no and it would be a mean bargain and a wicked car if you got it for that.
antz91,

Sweet. Will report back tomorrow.

Surprising how small old cars seem to be doing well, I have a very tidy 1995 manual cefiro (fwd etc 2.0l)which admittedly does have 250,000kms on the clock and I would be lucky to get a knob of goatshit for it, I would be amazed if I got $1000! even with new tyres and all sorts. Despite the petrol it would probably be more economical in the long run to drive it until it dies, which might take a while
franc123,

Thats just the point isn't it, why would anyone cough $2K to buy a 1989 Corolla XL or similar complete with 1300cc carb engine and no options, not even power steer, with a couple or three hundy on the clock when for the same money or less you can be in some thing 5-8 years newer and with way better spec, comfort, performance and safety! That might use maybe $15-20 more gas a week if you're an average careful driver if its a bigger car, or maybe the same or a bit less if its one of the less popular smaller models! When you stand back and look at it, its lunacy, I think most of the posters in here are in agreement on this one!
thejazzpianoma,
May 18, 9:23pm
Quite right, although with the likes of the Fiats you often get more power and better economy. Especially once you squeeze up into the MK2 Punto.
johnf_456,
May 18, 9:24pm
Well said franc, 20 year old cars should not go for that much especially for a laser, this dam petrol price market has made small manuals go up in price.

Looked at the fiat and it was awesome. Had to get used to the spring loaded reverse, and the indicators on the other side of the wheel but man was it fun to drive. No problems as far as i know (spent about 1 1/2 looking and test driving). Wish i could have spent longer but i finished work late and they close at 4.30.
thejazzpianoma,

Sounds good! They are a lot of fun to drive too, somehow the Italians seem to have the knack of making even their most basic utilitarian vehicles fun. Best of luck with bidding on it!
antz91,

Cheers mate. Now i wish i could delete this thread and deter any lurkers from bidding.

the good thing about that car for that price it is Pre-Bullpucky, and probably does not have all the unnessasary electronic crap that they put on cars now so if it starts to fail, you cannot afford to fix the thing. at 1500 bux and that milage, look at whats in front of you and judge by how it goes and applaud the lack of electronic extras.

I bought a 96 Punto after your recommendation on here. I like the car, but the biggest problem is the closeness of brake and accelerator pedals - I have hit the gas when trying to brake on a few occasions. Anyone else have this problem! Big feet.
