I have had that issue before with my big work boots on clients Punto's.

I'm too scared to wear my work boots in it. Sneakers are bad enough.

Had the same problem with an Uno, must be a fiat thing.

Must be their love of heel and toe driving. I'm still getting used of there being a third pedal.

You are spot on and definitely not the only one to notice, it is a bit of an annoying quirk, and something I should point out more often with those older ones. Its a quirk that goes back to the 60's.

The reason for it is the short bonnet and the way the cabin is designed for maximum space. The flipside of getting the extra room is the wheel arch always tends to get in the way of where the accelerator pedal should be. The good news is those MK1 Punto's were about the last to have this problem.

Glad the car is going well for you, might be time to upgrade to a MK2 and get some pedal space. and a LOT of other comforts too.

Actually once you are used to it, its great for serious driving. I had a 127 which suffers from that in the extreme when I was 15 years old. It had no syncro's left and I used to absolutely thrash the wee thing and the only way to achieve that was double clutch gear changes with a blip of throttle on the way through.

Some of the smaller Alfa's of the same age group have a similar layout. although more by intentional design than compromise I suspect.
