I ask some patience please from motorists

Crown Range has some significance as it is there I had my paragliding accident.
Climbing up that road I could tell like Sir Ed that: "I knocked that bastard off".
I have not chosen the route yet as I am in Queenstown for Xmas. A bit of a break and see some old mates. I used to live in Queenstown so it is like coming home.
I have no rush so I do not need to take the direct route. Might go via West Coast so Wanaka would be a convenient stop. There is a pretty good downhill all the way to Cardrona Pub for well earned lunch perhaps.
The journey might take 6 months or a year! So I can pace myself as I improve my fitness. At the moment I can do about 20 kilometres a day without getting totally buggered. Having 42 gears on my recumbent helps to climb those hills.

Have you ever driven on narrow winding gravel roads, extreme example would be Skippers Road in Queenstown. As there are not many places to pass you have to drive slow enough to be able to stop on half the distance you see ahead of you. If the oncoming driver does the same there would be no collision.
I have ridden that road on mountainbike and driven with my vans. The road is banned from rental vehicles.
I was more confident and faster on downhills on my mountain bike! On a bicycle you can hear the other traffic and your field of vision is not obscured by window pillars or other parts like in a motor vehicle.
Speed has everything to do with safety. Slow down on blind corners unless you are a clairvoyant.

I drive a rally car, I'm well aware of speed. However you are talking to ONE person. That is the point I'm making. I'm not everyone, you are preaching to someone who knows how to drive and the dangers, you are putting yourself in OTHERS way. People who have never seen a clutch pedal or know what a slide is.

wrong. if we cannot see you then you should not be on the road, personally,i do look for bikes and give alot of clearance room but once iknocked a guy off his bike on purpose for kicking my car ,because he thought i was two close.

SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS
Quoted for 2:11am reference.

And what a lot of childish, selfish opinions on this thread.
It may be a public road but it's MY road, anyone who might someday cause me to put my foot on my brake for a second or two is a pariah and has no right to be there.

trogedon, Dec 20, 7:40pm
If he could kick you - then you were too close. What you did was illegal and dangerous on both counts.

Having a nice cry

gadgetman, Dec 20, 10:27pm
If the car drivers can not see cyclists or other moving "obstacles" they should not be driving or at least get their vision checked and corrected.
Since when blind people are allowed to drive!

With your face ??

totally wrong. i was way over the centre line and the bikes were3 across, this guy who was part of a pack and was no where near medecided he was a hero and speed up after me.as i was stopped at a pedestrian crossing. hekicked my car twice. i dont care if it was dangerous or not. he kicked my car,, he gets hurt. i drove another mile and waited for the pack,, i new the bikes were going to pass me on the inside which is illegal so i waited for the prick and suddenly turned left into a car park. so what i hit him. it is illegal to pass on the inside the cops told him. dangerous,, yeah right,, i don't care. next time the prick will think twice before kicking some one car

aktow, Dec 21, 12:07pm
trogedon you did not read my comment carefully enough.i alwayslook out for bikes as most days i see bunches of them going along the water front. i could open my left door while i pass them and that wont even be close to hitting them but you always get one ass hole in the pack that thinks even being that far away is to close.

trogedon, Dec 21, 6:48pm
You should've written the whole story so we knew both sides. I agree with you.

Actually drivers rely on this as well. Plenty of drivers drunk, distracted and not in control kill plenty of other sober, paying attention and in control drivers as well as cyclists.

I kicked a wing mirror off once when i was working as a cycle courier and abused some POS bus driver for cutting me off. Also had a cop run a red light, pull up right in front of me and then proceed to tell me i should have stopped for an orange light. Theres a lot of morons on the road. Spend some time on a bike and you'll learn more about being a considerate driver in a week than you know now.
Yeah i still ride in traffic, i pay my acc levies on 2 cars. Ive never in my life used That ACC collection or the ACC i pay at work so why in hell should i pay more! Maybe you should pay ACC to cross the road on foot. Where does it stop! Maybe its time to stop ACC make it user pays insurance. Go on take a gamble

Yesterday I bypassed the Devils staircase section of SH 6 half way between Kingston and Frankton. I took the wet road;)
I kayaked past the narrow and winding road. I was having fun paddling the slight headwind and small waves. 5 km Paddling saved me about 7 km riding but I was slower than on the trike.
Today I managed 7 km but traffic is getting so heavy that I might call it a day unless it gets quieter!
There is a story about me on Mountains Scene: http://www.scene.co.nz/paralysed-after-paragliding-crash-now-cycling-for-charity/283537a1.page

no wonder you are not collecting many donations for charity.one would think you would stick to main routes rather than off the track where there are bugger all inhabitants
