It's my budget for a fairly reliable, possibly slightly zippy runabout. What would YOU choose with the same money! Remember, dont consider me, just what you'd buy! :)

morrisman1, May 5, 9:42pm
Id buy a n15 pulsar VZR with the sr16ve engine

skyline_guy_r34, May 5, 9:59pm
Ive heard you can get a Fiat Punto for around that price. Not sure exactly where I got that info from, think I saw it on Campbell Live the other night

kseries, May 5, 10:01pm
Anything with a 4age and youll be smiling

murdoko, May 5, 10:01pm
I would buy something old school like a starion or a philippweston's retro galant turbo. but then thats more of a hobby car rather than a runabout.

thejazzpianoma, May 5, 10:15pm
LOL - Nice!

thejazzpianoma, May 5, 10:19pm
2001 or newer Fiat Punto
* 4 1/2 Star NCAP (What else can you buy for that money whith that rating!)
* Fun to drive
* Nice extra's like factory sub woofer etc
* Stupidly economical as in 5l/100km open road 6.5 in the city.
* 5 or even 6 speed manual or CVT/Tipronic gearbox
* Surprisingly quite zippy for engine size, you do need to get the twin cam but the little 1.2 performs on a par with a 1.6/1.8 litre Corolla.
* Parts are cheap
* Very reliable
* You might nearly be able to afford the fire breathing Abarth or HLX model if you really want some power.

I would have another one in a flash.

thejazzpianoma, May 5, 10:28pm
Being me specifically, I would also consider an Alfa 156/145 in manual. with the twin spark engine. Lots of fun car for the coin and pretty good on gas considering. The down side is the frequent cam belt change but I am happy to do those myself (not really difficult you just have to buy the cam lockers).

Very reliable, if you have problems its usually minor easy fix at your leisure kind of stuff.

That gives you two good options anyway. One ultra cheap and safe to own/run and another still excellent value but more fun and sporty again.

Good choice.
Neighbours got one.what a great wee motor.
Would put one in my Sunny if I had the funds:(

morrisman1, May 5, 10:42pm
Ssh don't tell anyone that I told you this but the sunny came out with them too. Not a popular name so can be picked up dirt cheap. A vzr under the almera name sold for $1900 here the other day, was just advertised as a 1600 almera.

jasongroves, May 5, 10:47pm
Good to know;)
Unfortunately it wouldn't be a bolt in for my old bugger Sunny.but where would the fun be if it was! Lol.
Just picked up a GA16 off elvis58/Graeme to replace the current E13.
Wont be mind blowing performance.but still a huge improvement.

Probably another MX5.Buy a cheapish one with faded paint, add harder suspension, and try to get one of the factory LSD's.Then take it autocrossing (sealed, not gravel!).

The only ones I've autocrossed have been open diff, and it gets a bit old peeling up one tyre out of corners and not really going anywhere.

phillip.weston, May 6, 6:37am
Wow you must be easily excited then.

lyndapotty, May 6, 7:28am

scoobeey, May 6, 8:24am

kevin_the_kiwi, May 6, 8:31am

I knew it would only be a matter of time before jazz was here promoting euro cars and multplia's

bevharris1938, May 6, 11:56am
Anything with a 4AGE Toyota engine , fast reliable and cheap to run.

morrisman1, May 6, 12:05pm
and I just said that one sold for $1900.

You can get them cheap, just from people that don't know that the VZR is a special model and neglect to advertise those three letters.

hotrodtodd1, May 6, 12:38pm
300zx Nissan. Theres a whole bunch on TM for under $4000, and occasionally, you can get the twin turbo for that sort of money.

A great fun car.

morrisman1, May 6, 12:52pm
haha, love it!

johnf_456, May 6, 1:54pm
I'm just going on the current market
