It's not about nothing. It's about the laws being geared not toward the protection of the public but simply to the favour of the government.

Soooo.how could it work better! I guess you'd need a system like property, where the details of every building, and it's financial owner(s) is on file.

Usual story, my guess is no change until a) the present system hurts government enough, or b) it becomes an election issue (and then a) applies)

Absolutely. They even already have VIN and chassis numbers which a thorough buyer will verify match the vehicle that the registration plates were issued against.

But I guess the government have better things to do than protecting the public from crooks. Things like adding demerit points to inconsequential infringements of vehicle licensing while things that matter like vehicle safety are ignored.

Problem is of course, it costs several hundred dollars in legal fees to transfer property, due to the process.

There are people ripped off every day, sometimes because of stupidity, and sometimes because of crap laws/process. Until the pain outweighs the cost of a better system, the system stays. At the moment that pain doesn't seem overly large (IMHO) , compared to some other more pressing issues. SO we have a system where you can buy a car for $9.20 or whatever it is since GST went up.A better system will come at a cost, a high one at that.
