Yes they clearly have not done their research or are just trying to take someone for a ride. You can buy a really nice Grande Punto for 12K, also with low km's.
They are just a MK2 Punto with a nose job nothing special over the MK2. That said it is worth something extra for being newer than a MK2 and lower km's but not twice the price.
If they start selling for that much money I will have to start pushing the virtues of the Mazda Demio as an alternative!

Sweet! I will look forward to swinging by and saying gidday. I could even take you for a spin in the mighty multipla while I am there. (hey your on a slippery slope now anyway, might as well finish the job)
"Bryce Campbells Little Italy Car Sales" - has a nice ring to it I reckon.

^^ I think $2000 is about right for that, given it would have been about a $20,000 car new and that it's now 17 years old. You can get late 90s/early 2000's examples with less kms for about double that value.

well i drive past this car daily on my way to work, it is very very tidy, and the paint thing on the roof aint bad. i just thought it would be a cheap option for someone to either make cash or get a nice cheap runabout

Phillip is spot on with his comments. Its an easy trap to fall into, but despite similar appearances outside the MK1 Punto (the version in your link) is a very very different kettle of fish to the MK2 in the earlier link.
The MK1 is quite sparse and basic and has the typical short comings of basic small cars. You get a bit of torque steer, very little in the way of features and next to no safety.
The MK2 is the polar opposite. You get loads of features, from dual mode power steering, fancy 6 & 7 speed tiptronic CVT gearboxs, trip computer, and a factory sub woofer. The handling and ride is also very refined, much more like driving something a lot larger. And thats before you consider the 4 1/2 star safety with 4 airbags, pre-tensioners and the very torquy and powerful twin cam engine.
Don't get me wrong the wee MK1 is a great cheapie commuter, very reliable and economical and like you say a great little run about for someone (I would buy it for that price), but they are just no where near the car the MK2 is.

Would be a great little commuter for a person not into vehicles and just wanting a basic run around.
