I would not bother personally.
a. Just attract more of the cops attention to you (likely to pul you over and give you and audit) b. Brake lights there to be seen, making it harder is a safety issue, unless you run brighter bulbs but that is hard. c: better resale value d: insurance would have a case to decline.

Yes, it is illegal, and just because one may pass a WOF does not mean its legal. Any modifications to compliant parts have to be approved, either by using compliant parts or low volume approval

Tinting It is illegal to apply any kind of tint film, tint paint or opaque sticker to any lamp which has a function other than decoration (eg non-cosmetic).

it is illegal and will cost you many trafiic tickets. it does not look awesome. It is idiotic. Lights are there to protect you and others and to compromise any safety issues is irresponsible.

Well that just had to be said, it wasn't even that harsh. Anyone who think its ok to darken there headlights is stupid and dumb, we have lights on a ok for a reason. So people know if you are turning or braking.

I hope your not saying its cool to darken headlights since you don't agree with quickstiches statement. Since you have done a few of them and they are far much more harsh then one word. But if you like to tint headlights and think its smart go for it.

Its not about being different its from the safety point of view, has often tinting makes the lights less visible. If you prefer it thats your choice and your not dumb but to most sensible people darken tail lights is a very dumb move. You have idiots driving around here with panty hoses and at night time you can barely see when they have the brakes on. Its accident waiting to happen.
Don't get me wrong I don't mind a safe properly customized car, but if your going to do it. Do it right, safety first.

My evo 5.5 is all black. Black wheels, black brembos, black paint, interior, you name, its black, Only thing that is not black is my number plate, head lights and fog lights. Tinted tail lights actually make the brake lights brighter; since everything else is black, the red light gives the optical illusion that it is brighter when illuminated. The same story with my tinted side indicators. I've had no issues with WOF's or police officers, including highway patrol.
