might get a new one. whats the main differences between a $400 one and a $1000 one! any suggestions on what to get. i would prefer a cheaper one rather than expensive though

The more you pay the longer it will last & the less problems you will get,I know person that had wheels falling off, then the motor would play up etc.
In the end you get what you pay for.
I had a $900 push mower & it lasted & ran better than the $600 mowers that my friends got at the same time, half of them came to use my mower cos there ones was back at the shop getting fixed again.

I'm really happy with the $ 326 Cobra from Mega mitre 10. Briggs and stratton motor reasonably lightweight, starts first time . I Hose under the deck every second cut before I put it back in the shed. No problems

Go buy a Honda, about $1000, thick alloy deck, bearings in wheels, can be put into mulch mode and no Briggs and Shitbox engine.

I got my massport about 10 years or more ago. Cost about $800 from memory. Never been in the shop, blades changed 3 times, oil 4 times, carb flushed and blown out twice and thats about it. The handle bolt thingy where it folds came off and was lost and the throttle cable broke so I just set it at the motor and go. Still starts and always has started 2nd pull. No smoke no rust. And thats mowing lawns once a week for the season for ten plus years.

lawnmaster is nz made too. my first one was stolen! i must say i preferred the tecumseh motor as it revved slightly faster than the B+S(same Hp for both)

Go Victa/Masport/Lawnmaster with an alloy deck, bearing wheels and at least a 5hp engine. I prefer the Honda engines over the B&S ones. More fuel efficient and less problems. A cheap mower won't have any of the above (will instead have Steel body (rust here I come), cheap wheels with nylon bushes, less powerful engine).

15 years ago I bought a 5.5 hp B&S powered Rover. cast iron bore jobbie. Mows 1 hr of lawns each time, oil change every couple of years if I remember. Buy alloy chassis and proper bearing wheels then you can ignore it like a camry! The throttle remote fell apart last year & now I kick the throttle up or down but it starts and goes as well as when it was new and that has been a lot of lawns cut. Gets bad economy but, about a doz speights to the tank!

my nana had a Masport lawn mower with the B&S motor and so far its been through 3 generations of family. my parents got it when my nana had problems pulling the cord to start it, then i claimed it when it got replaced cause it didnt run very well (All it needed was a tune up and a new spark plug). has to be about 15 years old now if not older and the body is still rust free. however the engine gives up working about 30 minutes through the job till its had atleast a day to rest. no matter what you do, it wont start and if it does start, even a little bit of strain on the motor, and it just stalls lol

How does an OHV engine mower compare with a 4Stroke! Are they worth the extra cost!

there are mowers and then there are MOWERS ! you wont a good reliable mower that will go for 20 years then go a contractor series, i have gone honda with the self drive and mulch option also comes with a blade break so you can stop the blade while the motor is going and also has a 70ltr bag, yea baby thats the shizzle, i allways check my products via the web site PRODUCT REVIEW, check it out they have reviews on everything and people can put there own opinions up and rate the product out of 5, if you are gunna go for a cheaper model then i fully suggest that you change the oil every 15 hrs and wash the machine down after every use, every 30 hrs i change the plug and put new blades on this costs all of $30 for the lot ,oil, plugs and blades, check the site" product review"

Lawnmaster is the ONLY NZ made mower available new. My Lawnmaster 380 is 23years old, mows a large lawn and still runs strong. I have owned it from new and only replaced a wheel in all that time.
