Remember these bikes well, does anyone remember the Raleigh number one! My brother had one in 1973/4 which would have placed it about the same time as the chopper, it was very similar to the chopper but had chrome mudguards, gold paint and banana seat and no gears. The bike looked outstanding at the time, so much so that he was stopped by the local paper and had his picture taken. Would love to know if any others exisited.

I had the Dragster when me was a squirt.first night some buggar stole it off our deck while we were having grub, the ol'man caught them hoonin around the carpark.
Later on I also had the Chopper a green one which took out me front teeth going flat out down a hill and the little front wheel through her into a wobbly over the bars face plant in to the tarmac.not to worry,I did it agian on a skateboard, twice!.it was all in fun ;)

Yea,when we where kids we sure knew how to have fun,and all the crashes and scraps we had where all part of crowing up,now all the kids are wrapped in cotton wool, they missing out on so much cool stuff like we had back then.

And all those bloody head injuries that lead to us having to have helmets now. LOL.

morrisjvan, Mar 11, 1:57pm

goose13, Mar 11, 2:02pm
Lots of pubs on the flat parts. More than enough to keep fuel tank full.

My husband had one when he was a kid.He went to Pedalpushers a couple of years ago. to pick up a puncture for me. he came home with the newversion of chopper. for our son, of course. The only thing different is the positioning of the gear lever (they were worried about the groin injuries that could effect manhood later on) "How many owners had trouble fathering kids I want to know" the same with all the head injuries we got. Elvis.

I got a second hand Chopper for my 13th birthday and my eldest brother had a dragster at the time. Don't know what happened to them. I remember about that time I also had a MK 1 zephyr pedal car which I was too big for and I used to sit in it with my legs out over the top resting on the bonnet and would race down our drive way and crash into things. Don't know what happened to that either.

bluekiwi16, Mar 11, 7:51pm
Hence the helmet. roflmao.

mantagsi, Mar 11, 7:59pm

xacoon, Mar 11, 8:17pm

phlippy, Mar 11, 8:44pm
My first bike was a Chopper an orange one with a single tube that the the stick shift sat on. got all the xtras you could get including the Reving handgrip. you'd always break the dam gear cable at the point where it went into the axle though when you fell off. the old man used to get sick of buying new ones lol. best bit was the day you got new break pads and hooning up to a set of lights and locking the big fat tyre on the paint arrows on the road. and in the wet when you had no breaks lots of fun.

elvis58, Mar 11, 8:58pm
Great, so there was another, was it gold too!
