LOL DUH well yea busy sitting on 115kph up a hill passing the string of cars that HAD been doing 85kph before the hill. Speed in that situation is relevant to the length of the road & number of vehicles being passed. so yea in a screwed up way you are correct . but then again we are talking about a 1988 , 2.4 turbo diesel Surf with nearly 300,000km's on the clock & 4 passengers.
& I thought I had been doing SO well ;-)

Teh real problem was that the vehicle behind me. WAS behind me until I slowed down to move left, & THEN promptly moved up along side of me BEHIND the vehicle I had decided NOT to pass because of a general lack of room. YES there WAS plenty of room to the left of me before I slowed down
Do you understand where the real danger was in that situation .

So, Johnf 456, when you see these speed cameras at the end of passing lanes, what do you do about it. Try calling *555 and complain.Police know where and who the operator is and can deal with it.Complaining about it in here just makes people nod their head in agreement and not one of them can do anything constructive about it.Start a new trend lad!

Well, there is some enforcement but I think it's not very well targetted. However, there should be far more emphasis at obvious law breakers. You can see it around you on the roads every day!A STOP sign not far from where I live is being ignored by more than 90% of drivers! I would have thought the sign is there for a reason.At no time have I ever seen a cop trying to deal with what is, potentially, a dangerous situation. They may betoo busy catching people driving marginally over the city speed limit.As if it is only speed that kills!

Why would I need to start a new thread, the discussion is about "passing lanes". And as for speed cameras I don't do anything, if I am not speeding what have I got to hide!
I am not complaining it about I am just saying on one on hand we have some promoting pass any xyz speed you wish but in the real world that is a risk as pointed out above. So just adding in the missing part of it, I agree with whats been said around this thread.
It is all very well saying oh I get frustrated by people taking the whole passing lane to pass but "theoretically" and "legally" but.

Vehicles that are holding up traffic and come to a passing lane must pull to the left and let all the traffic pass by the end of the passing lane before merging back into one lane-Even if it means they have to come toa stop. $150 fine. This is what our local newspaper column written by our constable said. Can anybody find some evidence of this!

no, he said start a trend, as in dial *555 and report the camera for being at the end of the passing lane ( something they have strict guidelines about NOT doing), he will get told to move off to another site tootsweet amazed that more people don't defend those tickets - the law is worded to offer defence

Agree, i live neara motorway off ramp, there are Stop signs, both North and South bound, at times ,i think i must be the only person who stops at them. The CVIU cops sit on the over- bridge,watching fortrucks,coming North ,then follow them and pull them off to the weigh bridge at the next off ramp. It`s bloody annoying to watch them ,totally ignore traffic, failing to stop at the signs, i even pulled up beside one ,one day and asked him why he wasn`t ticketing them, but he said it wasn`t his job, he was only interested in trucks.

or following an old codger doing 80kms. then passing lanes speeds up to 100kms like hes in a race. then slowing down tom 80kms when passing lanes finished! i proudly get up everyones arse when they do that, and make no apology. Its slow thoughtless idiots like that who cause wreckless overtaking
