Got the car serviced, new wof, and rego. Needed some top ups on fluids, a new tyre, seatbelt re-aligned so it did up correctly, new light bulb for park light, and a throttle body clean. At;east it's done and dusted with for awhile. Most I've ever spent on it in one week before (spent $600 once just on getting the suspension fixed, nothing major other than those, so still consider it a pretty good car). Still love her even after 4 years. Anybody else been forking out on their pride and joy lately!

paulap, Feb 1, 1:22am
$500 on 2 tyres last Friday. And it still needs a WOF check yet.

the_chooky, Feb 1, 1:22am
Cost me $110 to fill wifey's car today.
Only time I'm allowed to drive it is when it's got no gas in it.

mugenb20b, Feb 1, 1:23am
Yeah, $80 for a wheel bearing on my ute. Otherwise, I don't pay for wofs and services. I do them in my own time.

tgray, Feb 1, 1:36am
I could have done all that for about $200

fordcrzy, Feb 1, 1:44am
One tyre!
Who the heck buys only one tyre. Your supposed to get two at a time

ninja_man, Feb 1, 1:50am
maybe the other three were almost new!
maybe some people can only afford one tyre at a time!
. . . .

Hate to be the bearer of bad news for some of you but amazingly enough motoring does cost from time to time. Its only the degree of it that varies, perhsps less if you get a well maintained model with a good reputation and keep it that way, more if you buy a neglected pos of an obscure one, or else make a misguided purchasing decision like an early GDI Mitsi or a 4JX1 Isuzu Wizard or something equally awful. Some vehicles also might take a weird expensive size of tyre or clutch or wheel bearing for example. Luck of the draw sometimes.

male_timaru, Feb 1, 2:25am
Isn't it illegal to do them on your own vehicles!

200sx, Feb 1, 2:43am
Haha - only time she is allowed to drive is when I'm dying and need to go to hospital. I don't call her "Kerb Mounter" for nothing!

jmma, Feb 1, 2:48am
Why would it be, good enough for him to do ever other car.

male_timaru, Feb 1, 3:00am
Erm Fairness .

Similar to Doctors writing out their own prescriptions - I am sure they have to get someone else to do it

I would never buy a car from a guy who give his OWN car a WOF lol

That might be borderline scenario and HE passes it . screams potential to be dodgy to me

i-n-horz, Feb 1, 3:02am
Get'n me boy on to a scoot.MC training course $160.License fees 1st round $97.2nd round $47 (passed).New battery for bike $90.W.O.F $30.Rego $273.Total $697.now able to ride to school to pay the $375 school fees.priceless.

i-n-horz, Feb 1, 3:05am
No modifications just replacement of a worn part, can't see how it would be illegal.

jmma, Feb 1, 3:10am
So he wouldn't value his, or his kids safety as much as his customers.
Nothing wrong with doing your own WOF

male_timaru, Feb 1, 4:35am
well we shall see from those that actually issue wofs what the opinion on legality of issuing your own car with a wof is - i was sure it was illegal.

snoopy221, Feb 1, 5:27am
I'll simply put it this way.
If one is 1) a qualified time served competent mechanic-
and 2) an Authorised Vehicle Inspector.
Then at the end of the day what he drives.
Is an example of his standards.
-nuttin wong wiff a man doin is OWN wheelie bearin.
might even be a MORE wof requirement meetin car dan most on da road -aye!
[at least !e! fixes/replaces AND maintains it.]

as to a man doin is own wof.
well.
some places with a larger number of AVICS consider it more ETHICAL
for another AVIC to do it-
Tis more an
**Independant quality control** rather than a legality

bopbargains, Feb 1, 12:05pm
gotacarfrom aguy that put a WOF onhis owncar. The WOFwas only 1 dayoldandgotitinspectedand failed onchassis damage andseatbelt. The WOF got canceledandI made aformalcomplaintto theMTAtowhich thegarage wasamember. They did nothing.

jkm, Feb 1, 12:10pm
Rego, camber kit, wheel alignment, 4 new tyres, and starter recon. Looking at $2000 this week. Still should be sweet for a while now.

superdave0_13, Feb 1, 12:12pm
Isn't there an old saying along the lines of never buying a car from a mechanic!

pup2, Feb 1, 12:33pm
I would have thought someone else would have to do the warrant as well. As Snoop said .ETHICAL

tgray, Feb 1, 12:47pm
Nothing wrong with buying 4 really good used tyres. You can pay $500 for new ones if you like, but you can get a set for $200 that are in exc cond by making a few calls.

alan1111, Feb 1, 1:15pm
I issue my own wof and if anything i am probably a little harder on my own vehicle than everyone elses. Yes i also do fail my own car if it is not up to virm standards.
I can not see anything wrong with doing it. Saves me $45.00 every 6 months.

jmma, Feb 1, 1:19pm
I would rather have your car than, say the office boy who goes home and overhauls his calipers, replaces his pads etc, maybe this should be illegal!

Qualified to do it, what matters whose car.
