I got a friend to pick up 2 wheel bearing kits for my hilux from my local repco 100Kms away 2 weeks ago, figuring this long weekend i could pull my axles replace the bearings, seals etc.pulled it all out this morning cleaned it up and went to rebuild the axles.BAM the orings and bearing retainers are missing from the kits.I call Repco explain the situation.my options given to me by salesperson
rebuild with all old parts drive the 200km round trip get new kits and start again.
borrow someones car to pickup new kits
Pay for new kits and courier fees for them to be delivered on tuesday
Return faulty kits at my expense for credit to my account.
Salespersons answer to my comment that if repco sells kits with missing parts Repco should be responsible/pay for delivery and return of kits.
Oh it happens often, people buy the kits take out the parts they need and bring kits back for refund.
I ask, dont you check if parts are missing!
His answer ,oh sometimes.
So chewing on the bullet ive ordered new kits they get delivered sometime tuesday so will jump on the pushbike to get to and from work till I can get truck back on the road.
Had my vent thanks

Typical of Repco, that shit happens all the time. Counter muppets couldnt care less at Repco.

Well I suggest first thing Tuesday Morning you ring them. Talk to the mananger, not counter staff or some 2ic. Tell him/her whats happened and how uneceptable it is to have parts missing etc. Its not like your just around the corner is it.
Dont except any bull from him/her either. If you dont get any satisfaction ask for the number of his/herboss. They wont like you asking but tuff. And there boss wont be happy there store manager isnt helping.
They probably hope you wont do anything but moan and give idle threats. Dont, follow it through to the end. And to your satisfaction.

Yep this is the problem with many a corporation these days. The upper management are getting paid so much that the counter gimps are usually on minimum wage just to pay the essentials, so they have no incentive to give two ****s about your problems.
You usually have to go to the management to really get any results - they are usually over paid, lazy ****s but they have the authority to make you (and the annoying extra work you represent) go away.

Do the kits definitely come with retainers! Sometimes its a separate part number, go figure

Consumer Guarantees Act is on your side (assuming you aren't a business). It specifically covers consequential damages.

Yip thats a possibility, have seen that before. On later model utes that have ABS the sods often don't include the tone wheels either which are often damaged unless you are ultra careful getting them off.You need to be certain of what you are buying with aftermarket stuff, its often better to go genuine. Its possible that this was not the retailers fault.

Yup like buying generic copies vs oem parts. The oem part comes with all parts required. The generic comes with the main part.

i got an alternator off t/m from repco had it fitted ,it was a dud.i live in the country so garage fitted old one back on.rang repco akl spoke to a manager was no problem getting a replacement sent to west coast, repco picked up the bill for 1st job all i had to pay was fitting new one. have heard bad things about company but 1st rate in my book

Should of gone to your local Toyata dealership. Genuine Toyota parts are actually cheaper than aftermarket. And the chances are it will be the right part first time.

I went in last week to buy 1m of 1/2" (12.7mm) heater hoes. The guy gave me 5/8" (16.0mm) Fuel vapor/PCV hose! I'll be going back to get my money back, when I get time.
Best to go to supercheap as you get look the stuff/part up yourself.

gunhand, Feb 6, 10:02am
Its because people only moan when things go wrong, not when it goes right.

toyota gen parts aren't that great in my experiance. i had an '02 hilux & 40k into it the rear axle seal starts leaking. they replaced under warranty but it reoccurred numerous times.(between 10-15k) eventually we went somewhere else & they fitted Saeco seals. the fault was gone for almost 18 months. then the diff bearings started whinning so we went back to Toyota. sure enough, gen parts fitted & every 15k the seals would leak again. we told them mot to use gen parts but no, they had to. eventually we went somewhere else again & the Saeco part fitted & the fault went away. the gen seal only had 1 lip, the saeco had 2. solved my problem by going to Mazda now. 190k & no dramas yet.

Supercheap aren't all that good either - went in to get a td42 fuel filter & they kept insisting I needed the little inline petrol filter - I wasn't sure where they were [wasn't near other fuel filters], but the 2 girls there, didn't have a clue.

this actually works in your favour occassionally, while down there getting a cam belt for my hilux last week asked for a quad battery
the lad brings one over and begins taking details ( battery sales have to be entered in a book) and discovers that it is missing it's bottle of acid
ever quick to scent a bargain I asked whats it worth without the acid
$38
I got that battery under my arm and out of there real quick - 2 minutes earlier it was worth $88 - and I have whats left a 20 lt of 98% sulphuric sitting in the back of the shed, - battery works fine, no more pull starting the dog

Both Repco and supercheap are fairly useless when it comes to dealing with any car it seems.just find out what you need first and then ask them to get it, easier I find.besides the kids behind the counter have no idea what BMC or BL is/was so they're fairly useless to me lol

jason_247, Feb 6, 6:14pm
as much as i feel for you with the bearing parts missing,

face it you bitch and moan about the price of parts not being rock bottom but turn around and complain that they are using cheap labor

3 options,
1. deal with low wage workers, dont expect the front counter person to know everything, if they dont know ask to speak to someone else, generally there is at least one person instore that can help

2. learn enough about your car that you can check your own parts where possible, seeing as you generally know more than anyone else about your car

3. go to the dealership that will know about your car and pay through the nose for parts, ever consider that their parts arent cheap because their parts specialists arent paid $13 an hour!

Whilst everyone is quick to jump up and down about their consumer rights bear this in mind

shops DO NOT have to offer refund or exchange if
you find out you dont need that part after all
you find it cheaper else where
you give them incorrect information to find it
you install it incorrectly
and most importantly "you deam the product unsellable before returning it for any reason other than manufacturing faults"
I.E. if repco give you the wrong cv joint and you fill it with grease before finding out it doesnt fit thats your problem, check the product, thats your job as its your car not theirs

bearing this in mind most retailers will still offer a remedy for customer satisfaction so stop acting like everyone is trying to wriggle out from under the consumers guarantee act just to screw you over

elect70, Feb 7, 12:37pm
Its not uncommon to find wrong part in correctly labled box , check check check, particulary with Bearings . I buy bearings from local SKF agentat least they aint cheap chineserubbish

stabi360, Feb 7, 3:30pm
my son purchased a headunit sub speaker amp combo and when it was time to install about 6 mths later it didnt gothey didnt want to know about it even though the guy we were speaking tosaid he could see it has just been installed
the face plate was faulty he came out with another and it worked finedidnt want to exchange it had to go through head office
what a rigmarole
