How is it that when manhole,hydrant/service covers etc. if they are in the wheel track, they cant they get them flush! how hard can that be ! even when when a re-seal they balls it up.

mugenb20b, Feb 11, 3:32am
Yep, wait till you drive over the railway tracks at 100km/h just north of Mangaweka. You just about end up mimicking the ejector seat effect, compressed spine an' all.

fordcrzy, Feb 11, 3:39am
Thats nothing.
tried driving over the Tauranga harbour bridge!

that thing was built from precast FLAT concrete panels and yet they still managed to make it the BUMPIEST ride outside of the grumpy mole.
dont even get me started on the expansion joints that have been responsible for at least 3 accidents

I had a punctured tyre last week thanks to shocking manhole-potholes in Hamilton.Only going 50-60KM, still feels weird even after having alignment, balance, new tyres etc.

net_oz, Feb 11, 10:51am
Have you ever stopped to think just what is involved in raising them to the hieght of the road surface!
If they're such a problem to you, then why don't you just avoid them! Most competent drivers do.

ryanm2, Feb 11, 12:12pm
maybe you guys should drive around the eastern suburbs of chch for a day. then you will have a reason to complain.

serf407, Feb 11, 12:29pm
#6 Do have any photos to post ! Did the liquefaction trucks backload rock to fill the holes !

bashfulbro, Feb 11, 1:51pm
Contact OSH,take a case against Transit NZ, if you are a truckie, they are required by law to keep your workplace( the road), safe.If a road is not safe, then they are in breach of the law.

sandndude, Feb 11, 2:52pm
at no time did I say i drove into them,& neither did i say they needed raising I wasmerely making an observation as to their relationship to the finished surface.Try doing some reading comprehention.

trogedon, Feb 11, 3:05pm
Try cycling over them!I've contacted Waitakere council about some of them. A couple they sorted.some they didn't.

shuddupowh, Feb 11, 6:41pm
Not only the manholes, I hate them too even in our Odyssey which is normal height you can feel every raised one. Its not hard to make the road surface around them higher when doing a reseal, simply a thicker coat or more gravel underneath. And K drive is shocking, near the truck stop the road surface is sh-t (wearing off & smalls holes), and about 8 manholes within 500m and its impossible to avoid them all as they are not spaced out properly and are all raised or too low. And then the traintracks there need to be redone as they dip too much so cars have to slow right down (depends what kind of car- our Odyssey can go 60 over it). And the tracks down by The Base need to be redone also, even at 10kms it is shocking.

It is a known fact that NZ has some of the worst roads in the World. Even our street & others in our area, got resealed a few months ago. Seemed fine to me before they did and they made them worst as its just rough, not smooth at all - and the sweeper never came back to clean the roads up after they set (been months now). Makes driving our roads crap cos of the road noise.

pico42, Feb 11, 7:18pm
It is hard to get the compaction around the manholes to be the same as the rest of the road. Additional compaction occurs over time from vehicles, leaving the cast manhole lid proud.

sw20, Feb 11, 8:28pm
Amateurs.

All the man hole covers are now about a foot higher than the road in Christchurch.

chris_051, Feb 11, 9:17pm
they obviously aren't doing their job, judging by the amount of brain dead dozy dickheads in cars/suvs on the road.

darryl, Feb 11, 10:03pm
So slow down - it's not rocket science.

woody1946, Feb 11, 10:07pm
God, you must drive a crap car, our old Peugeot hardly even feels that crossing at 100k

mugenb20b, Feb 11, 11:57pm
Yes, I do. A 1986 Ford Courier.

mugenb20b, Feb 12, 12:02am
Yes I've tried that. I'm not an idiot. I've tried crossing at 70, 80, 90, and 110km/h. Made no difference.and I'm not stopping 100km/h traffic just to make a split second of driving more comfortable.

taipan4, Feb 12, 12:05am
+++++++1

mopar63, Feb 12, 2:06am
yep, don't think my Javelin would want to ride over that at any speed, ouch!

pnh4, Feb 12, 2:53am
which makes a bump worse duh

elect70, Feb 12, 8:58pm
