Its funny a few years ago when I posted a similar thing to the same model car, every one was going on about how they are rust buckets and worth stuff all even for a tidy one. Seems attitudes have changed about the old 280z over the last few years.

I've been a fan ever since we did 270kph down the I95 out of Chicago in a modded old style 300Z :)

I have owned 5! 6! of the two seater 280Zs. So Im also a big fan of them.
Its a shame they have such major rust issues.
I suspsect even if buying a restored one, it probably wouldnt be that long before the odd bubble or two start to show. Its one of the things that sadly devalues them I think. Just my perspective on it. I would love another to drop an 8 in to. But the rust issues do scare me.
Its one of the reasons Im leaning towards buying an early RX7 to drop an 8 in to instead. :-(

Use one of the boxy-looking 2nd-generation RX7s for that project - they look a bit bigger and tougher, like something that wants to have a proper V8 heart.
I have actually seen one of these with some sort of V8 in it, and it just looked & sounded. right.

(Just my pointless opinion!)

"boxy-looking 2nd-generation RX7s"
which year are we talking about here!
and no definitely not pointless. Its all good.
I'll be looking at a series 2 or 3.
I used to have a series 5 with a sb chev in it.
I like the more sleek lines of the earlier series 1 - 3 , which is the late 70s to mid 80s shape.

My old neighbour (Dennis Charlett - superbikes etc) put a Lexus 8 into an RX7, dunno what series though.

You mean he's going to regret spending too much modifying the car and selling it for a loss when an original of the same car might get him an extra 20% to the right buyer.

Even without the go faster bits though, that car's never going to be an "investment".

Although I see people are asking retarded prices for 240's now too, so maybe its the norm to buy an average to reasonable for its day soft sports car and ask double what its worth.

smac, Feb 12, 7:39pm
NO, I mean he'll regret selling it later.

Nobody modifies cars to make money, or as an investment, so I don't see why people raise the comparison of modified versus original. The fact is it's not original, and we don't know if it was when he got it. He might have pieced it together from a box of bits , or he may have bought mostly done, or it may have been his mothers and he chopped it from standard. Who cares.

I have a 1965 Austin Mini, drastically modified. No doubt some purists look at it and say "it's worth less like that, should have kept it original.". Think I care! Too funny.

SO all I mean is, it's a kinda cool car, and sometime after it's gone he'll wish he still had it.
