Wrong, I tow a lot of trailers and loaded at that and don't see the need to suck fuel trying to keep up with traffic unless I'm in the way. Going down hills or nice smooth bits of highway that close in a bit I tend to shoot along with traffic as to maintain a decent gap in front of me (people just keep overtaking and pulling into it otherwise) and that's the exact time you spot the plod pointing the gun at you on totally stupid bits of road.
If you fully believe that statement I quoted you are quite ignorant of many situations and how silly a lot of the places they patrol are for reasons like the one I just stated.

This is a folly,
In order to avoid holding traffic up and causing people to pass you unnecessarily (which is a real risk to road safety) you now need to to maintain car speed within a very small margin.
This can require quite a bit more conscious driver input, especially with some vehicle's (Fiat Stilo Abarth comes to mind). This is harder again if you regularly drive a variety of vehicles with different characteristics.
Tell me I am an incompetent driver if you like, I am just human like the rest of us.

Also, trying to drive in too narrower margin of speed variance is not only more fatiguing on the driver (especially over long journeys) its also reduces fuel efficiency. This is bad for the pocket and the environment.
At the very least the Police should commission a study on this if their real agenda is road safety.
Tell me I am an incompetent driver if you like, I am just human like the rest of us.

Asked and answered. It's because the limit is so unnecessarily low in the first place.

Out in the real world not all roads are created equal. Sometimes there are hills that go up and down, in fact some are quite steep and require more than just careful manipulation of the "go fast" pedal.

Yep I live out in the country but I can still manage to keep to the speed limit and if my car starts to go over Ipull back.I don't like paying f forspeeding tickets so I drive atthe speed limit.

Same the government gets enough of our money as they do, so why give them another reason to collect more of it by speeding.

I wanna start a new political party pushing a new set of road rules. The first will be --Use common sense. The second will be--if in doubtgive way

I don't necessarily agree with the reduction in tolerance, however the "it uses more concentration to look at the speedo" argument is poor. You should always be keeping half an eye on the speedo anyway, and it shouldn't take that much concentration. Certainly no different to keeping an eye on your mirror(s).

Was snapped not long ago for that very reason.I usually drive my Hiace manual, the Mrs and I went away for a weekend I decided to drive (her car a Vitara auto) the acceleration response is more quicker but less noticeable due to the ease and quietness of a late model vehicle.within 10mins I was ticketed for 55kmh in a 50 and that was accelerating away from a round-a-bout towards an 80kmh stretch.I actually pulled to the side still rolling thinking he wanted to pass.but it was WTF!

You're trying to say you watch the needle the same trying to keep the vehicle in a 4km band as a 10kmh band! What planet you on! I'm more than happy sitting on 104kmh on a straight road but to constantly worry about sneaking up to 107 ruins the joy of driving. I noticed that I naturally would notice my speed having crept up at around 108 and correct. To get a speeding fine at 105 for not noticing quick enough is ass!

And I'd support ya mate if it wasn't for the self righteousness, and arrogence of many NZ drivers. Look at the boards here, so many openly admitting to crossing the centre line because they can and always have done, so many who think speed limits are for everybody but them, the way many just have to be first in the que even if they are turning off just up the road and I'm sure you have also noticed the apalling way many people just cannot manage to drive properly. You could make the speed limit 150kph without any tolerance yet some here would winge and bitch because they got sprung 5kph over the limit. It's an arse folks but we all suffer because of LCD or lowest common denominator drivers. Until we can show we are capable of behaving with the laws as they are we won't see any changes.

Ahhh crap.it happened.I finally find myself agreeing with berg.
I don't think for a second decreasing the tolerance to 4kph will have one iota of impact on the road toll. The Police are still unable to provide any meaningful stats on how many accidents are caused by drivers exceeding the speed limit (as opposed to too fast for conditions).
However, if it takes them trying to it show that it doesn't work, then so be it. There's a speed limit, stick to it. If you can't, take the ticket on the chin, or if you're so inept you can't stay under 104 then aim for 95 instead of 100.

Paula Rose who was the Road Policing Manager has just retired from the Police. The guy acting in her posn. made a comment about the 4km/h tolerance becoming permanent before getting shut down by his boss. The boys are back in charge, expect changes.

Lol, don't know where you get you info but no, Paula has not retired. She has been working in Canterbury filling in for their acting commander

What kind of person has the nerve to complain about getting snapped for speeding when they made a CONSCIOUS DECISION to drive faster than the posted limit! That's just dumb.
So hey here's an idea. How about try driving at 100km/h next time! That way when your speedo does creep up, you'll only be doing 102km/h. and not 107.
Won't be for a bit yet. You don't often just retire from the police and walk streight out the door.
