Judgmental Carsales man

I rang a carsales today, and when told him my needs (3 booster seats side by side in rear seat) and that I had a $5K budget I got all the sighing and tut-tutting and 'ooooh that's asking for trouble' carry on . and I said, 'well, unfortunately budget dictates over my wants'.
He mumbled on and around the point, trying to coax me into a $8500 vehicle. When I said AGAIN I couldn't afford that, he said 'oh hang on, I have just the one, it's a this and a that and it's got this and that, but there's one thing, it's $8500. (WHAT THE!!)
Anyway, when I said once again I couldn't afford it, he said something along the lines of 'You know . you've got 3 children. The government pays ALL your tax so you should be in a position to pay or pay off $8500. I was confused, so asked what he meant. He said "You get truckloads of money in Family Tax Credits for having three children, don't you!" He had a snarly tone to his voice. I couldn't believe it! But I was still polite, and said "No, it doesn't work like that, we have to work to support our family" . I soooo wish I hadn't been polite. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Haha what a dork, just like the rest of them in the opinion board who are too thick to know the difference between WFF and a welfare payment for doing nothing. You should also remind him that your children will no doubt be paying for his pension in the future out of their taxes and all the lifestylers who choose not to have children and would rather own three houses instead and who are the REAL tax dodgers won't be.Anyway back to the real issue, get yourself a ford falcon, or a commodore if you prefer those, you have to be buying something very late model in the midsize class to enable 3 seats in the back which 5K won't get unless its extremely high kms. Oh and don't forget to tell everyone you know who this person is and his attitude towards working peopleand their finances.

go to Turners Auctions and Turners Sales - you'll get a good car/van/suv for that price and you can get AA to assess it for a small fee prior to buying. $5K is not that bad when looking for a decent vehicle.

thunderbolt, Feb 17, 10:36pm
Your suggestion lost all credibility when you suggested gifting $100 to the AA.

Agreed.

I once wandered into a North Shore Ford dealership with the intention of buying a new FPV.Straight off the farm I wasdressed in shorts, jandals and tee shirt ,I guess i didnt really look the part but I did have $80,000 in my pocket. I wandered around the showroom eying up the latest and greatest and tried to get the attention ofa salesman. They all walked past me and totally ignored me. I eventually gave up and walked out. Never regretted not buying that FPV.Got to be a lesson in there somewhere

You must have had very baggy shorts to have $80,000 in your pockets.

I'm surprised they didn't give you more attention - wondering what you had packed in your stubbies. Maybe they felt too shy to look at you.

mrfxit, Feb 18, 6:21am
LOL , THAT ^^ had better be sarcasm ;-)

mrfxit, Feb 18, 6:24am
Yep . I know were ya coming from.
Run in to similar attitude issues in many other places/business's.
Apparently if you have the funds available, you WILL be dressed accordingly.

pukus, Feb 18, 6:53am
LOVE your style of people - I hope to do that one day . gotta get through the $5000 in my pockets stage first ;)

And the response about being too shy to look at you with your well-endowed pockets, LOVE LOVE LOVE it. stopped me stewing for a while :o)

Pukus--That car salesman was STUPID. There is not other possible explaination.
What perhaps he should have said was . Look I'm really sorry but we simply don't have anything for you priced at $5000.
Unfortunately what I predicted would happen with cars in the 5=7k price range is happening now, Ie the caryards bringing in cars from japan arent able to source that lower priced stock.
In the last month I have lost count of the number of potential sales I've lost because I can't get decent stuff for 5k
But they ARE out there.
I auctioned off a 1997 toyotaipsum2 weeks ago and it got to $3600 roughlyIt would have been a 5k car but it was pretty well covered in scratches so would cost me too much to get up to retail condition.
This week I had a high milage diamantei wagon which would have taken all three seats-I got about $1900 for that one.

don't go to a yard - stuff car yards.

buy privately. if you can't find something on trademe you need your abilities checked

kazbanz, Feb 18, 7:40am
What idiotic advice.
Its rediculous to advise someone to cut out about 30% of the cars available in her price range because you are personally biased.
Im NOT saying ONLY go to caryardsthat also would be an act of total stupidity with 5k to spend.

jason18, Feb 18, 7:41am
I like your attitude where you arent borowing heaps of dosh to buy a car you just sticking to your budget. Most people dont do that. Look for an au wago. I scored one for 4.5k fits 3 across the rear not that I have 3 kids but they are reliable.Just check for rust

bellky, Feb 18, 7:44am
with only 5k to spend op cannot afford to transfer any wealth to useless and unnecessary used car salesman!

bellky, Feb 18, 7:46am
you're a used car salesman - you have a vested interest - stop patrolling this mb like a shark on the hunt

gammelvind, Feb 18, 7:51am
Sorry mate, Kaz is probably one of the best contributers to this mb. He provides a lot of balance to some of the tripe that comes out of the mouths of the ignorant posters.

kazbanz, Feb 18, 7:52am
Rubbish--the OP is in Napier and I made it clear I have nothing in her price rane even if she wasn't.
Your advice is faulty simply based on some personal bias on your part

bellky, Feb 18, 7:53am
ditto mr vested interest

bellky, Feb 18, 7:53am
sorry 'mate' - i don't care about your opinion

ralphdog1, Feb 18, 8:00am
Is there a modern internet age term for Village Idiot!

gammelvind, Feb 18, 8:04am
Lol they used to keep them in special homes, but they let them out!

carstauranga001, Feb 18, 9:05am
dork

kazbanz, Feb 18, 9:07am
Gwan--explain to me how in any possible way I can gain by reccomending a buyer explore EVERY avenue when looking to buy a car!Given A) I have NOTHING in her price range let alone to suit her needsB) the OP is based in Napier and C) most likely in her price bracket a local private sale car will work best.
Your comment is akin to me sayingDon't ever deal with anyone with the named adolfbecause of the efforts of one meglamaniac

trogedon, Feb 18, 9:09am
There's a new term = bellky
