cops didn't turn up at his house - they checked him out in hospital - he didn't even start the bike, but apparently had the keys (according to his mate the cop was talking to).bam.'intent' to use the bike. So nowdays you can get busted for 'thinking' about riding a bike in your back yard after too many beers.Sheesh!

The problem is/was that years back if you could out run the plod and get onto your property they couldnt do anything to you. Thankfully they closed that bizzare loophole. If this was true Im not sure but I certainly heard it all the time so there may have been some fact to it.
tonyrockyhorror,

Yes, MoT couldn't pursue you onto private property. Police however could come and get you.
'Loophole'! No. Merely the sanctity of your 'Castle', and rightly so.

Yea it was the MOT days to. Still, it was a stupid law.

Like on smash palace, where he's testing out his racecar full noise past a cop, cop pursues until he pulls into smash palace and the cop has to forget about it

Bollox.
No health staff (ambulance included) ever call the police unless there is a further risk to the safety of any person.
Tell the full true story and a more meaningful discussion might be possible.

As a general rule we dont give a rats arse what you have done. If it was that bad the cops are useually involved anyway and called at same time. But in some circumstances police would be called but would have to be a good reason.

There is alot more to the story than op is telling, if it was me I would of said 'I slipped when pushing my bike into the shed to put it away'

taipan4,

so if he had managed to start it & ride it on the road & kill or maim someone elsewould he get more sympathy (i doubt it)this person needs to take a running jump at himself

and whenever it involves a vehicle of any description. I have family that works in hospitals - so I'm well aware of how it goes.
r15,

based on this logic, there is often "intent to drink drive" going on in the shed-if the boys are in the shed drinking and there's a lack of seats there's a couple of mx bikes that get sat on.amazing this is considered illegal!
pollymay,

Hang on how is this different to falling down the stairs or anything else!
And the cops do turn up to such incidences. It doesn't matter if it was a bike, a ladder or whatever. It's inanimate till the keys are put in it.
r15,
Feb 28, 12:03pm
what if the bike doesnt have a key then-eg a mx bike
mottly,
Feb 28, 12:05pm
thats exactly my point - it all sounds like crap to me.
mull05,
Feb 28, 12:22pm
damn so I or guests out in my shed could be done for sitting on my rideo on mower lol sometimes the keys are in it too
owene,

The OP is talking utter shit. You can't be charged with DIC whilst on private property. I've never heard so much drivel.
mottly,
Feb 28, 5:33pm
owene, you should read properly - not being charged DIC - being charged with 'intent' to drive a vehicle while drunk. mull05 - just make sure you don't fall off it and crack your noggin lol
owene,
Feb 29, 8:33am
You have a vivid imagination.
Be careful or the police will charge you with "Having the intent to assault a person or persons unknown at location unknown on date unknown." Lock you up they will.

Incorrect.

What bit!
owene,
Feb 29, 5:12pm
The private property bit. You can not be charged with "intent" and even less for being in charge of a vehicle on private property. Some people talk a load of crap on this subject.
gunhand,

I know of someone who was caught driving in a paddock that was being used as a car park at the time. They were a disqualified driver at the time and had another charge of DWD placed on them. They assumed as they were on what they considered private property at the time they would be safe. Um no. Only moved the car a few feet to. Expensive and annoying lesson it was.
