it wont be tier 1next year, Suzukis final year, change of model, only leaves NZV8 will have to callit some thing else

bill-robinson, Feb 23, 1:16pm
Maybe it will go back to Allcomers saloons. perish the thought, but we would get proper racing with overtaking.

hopie, Feb 23, 1:21pm
ah OK down the other end. makes sence . althou so does doing skids in the warehouse carpark

socram, Feb 23, 3:14pm
JK has been to HD and was most impressed. He had a 1 on 1 talk with Tony Roberts and was impressed with what the skidpan can offer in terms of driver training and the facilities overall - and that was a couple of years ago.For the government to put any money into motorsport at all is a huge swing away from their traditional areas of support for other sports.Whether we like it or not, regardless of the support for the Aussie V8s, it is all media driven and motorsport is not supported by the media.

We are just pushing now for better support for a decent classic saloons class, supported by the other half of HD, Chris Watson, plus Tony Jacks (Escort V8).

twink19, Feb 23, 3:50pm
so long as you dont include that single seater of Williamswith a Merc body on it as a classic
next year they are running a class for ex Shell Sport Cars in the South Island

lookoutas, Feb 23, 4:37pm
From what I saw on TV, the SuperTourers looked pretty awesome.
Stuff the Ozzies.

bill-robinson, Feb 23, 5:16pm
Well they all looked the same except for the ads, made the same sound, mainly gearbox whine, followed by diff whine, and a quiet engine.A 7 litre v8 should rattle your chest as it comes on song, if it did I did not feel it, and I wandered around the infield and outside of the track.Need to make a lot more noise to appeal to the publicBill
PS
I have felt 7 litre v8 race engines years ago, a whole field of them, sorry not true there were a couple of 5 litre flat12 engines with turbos, but they were noisy as well.

patiki1, Feb 23, 5:36pm
And you believe JK.

matthew_129, Feb 23, 8:01pm
I was there as well in the black WRX. I didnt get picked up but my mate in his primera did and got sent home.

The track is actually quite alot of fun with its various bumps around the place, but could deffinatly do with some work.

elect70, Feb 24, 1:28pm
Noise restrictionsaffect all circuits these days. & HDisnt allowed to upset the prisoners peace & well being up the hill

bill-robinson, Feb 24, 5:08pm
well I am glad I had my time in motor racing when noise was great. In 5 years electric cars will be racing, how ******* wonderful is that.

socram, Feb 24, 5:50pm
Prime Minister, John Key, visited Hampton Downs26 June 09 for an extensive look at the Motorsport Park and drove a circuit of the track.

Mr Key spent 90 minutes talking to Tony Roberts and staff at Hampton Downs and was very interested in the concepts and potential of the Motorsport Park.

Driver training at the circuit and the use of the skid pan is of particular interest to the Government, especially after yesterday??

socram, Feb 29, 9:43am
Seems that Pukekohe is now a distinct possibility after all.

serf407, Feb 29, 10:57am
#39. Is this the Herald article !
Seems like a normal NZ scenario. Spending money on a project with a short term life span with no real benefits except for egos.

socram, Feb 29, 3:00pm
Radio this morning - and the other thing to consider is, who stands to gain the most from a cash injection from the government!
Pity they won't put the money into the HD track extension as that has a long term benefit.

elect70, Feb 29, 3:35pm
^^^ I smellMSNZlobbyingbehind the scenes, anything to deny HD any possibility of runningaus super cars& being able to continueT1V8 s at pukebut who gives afig .We may see more aussies pick upsuper tourerfranchisesas another batch of cars available next year&few placesvacant in& cost isway up therein super cars.

esprit, Feb 29, 3:43pm
TBH I think it's politics at work.

I heard Tony Cochrane say that HD was ruled out because its straight was too short for V8 Supercar racing. to say nothing of the fact that it's quite a bit longer than the one at Symmons Plains in Tasmania that they race at each year quite happily.

I DO suspect that V8SC group are a little worried about the NZV8ST category as it seems that the V8STs are somewhat close to the V8SCs on performance at a fraction of the cost. I think they're worried that some of the V8SC teams may hop the ditch where they can get more value for their racing dollar. Throwing their weight behind Pukekohe (and hence MSNZ and their NZV8 formula) I think they're trying to decrease the chances of their riches being stolen out from under their nose.

geedubu, Feb 29, 3:51pm
Where is the lobbying!I cannot imagine why the Pukekohe track, an adjunct to a tired horse track, attracts govt support vs Hampton Downs.Hampton Downs is one of the very few examples of private sector support for sports in NZ.A wonderful facility and I do think it deserves support.

esprit, Feb 29, 3:56pm
It gets my support. I'll never race at Pukekohe again. HD all the way. even thinking of buying a business unit there.

skully13, Feb 29, 4:15pm
If it goes back to Pukekohe, then there was some backroom brown nosing going on. They had it for years and spent no money to improve the place, and if they did it was the bare minimum. Now that it looks like free money from the Government to upgrade the place. Where were they with the money when Hamilton were struggling! Why not Hampton Downs! We can all see it, that Pukekohe is on it's last legs to remain a motorsport facility with all the restrictions in place, with more to come.
