and jk going to tip some money in to refurbish the track, wondering why they didnt like hampton downs and wondering if its anything to do with the money generated and some how leftie len could get his mitts on it.

ninja_man, Feb 22, 6:42pm
pukekohe is a great track, just needs some money spent on it.

xs1100, Feb 22, 7:13pm
yes but look at the investment made at hampton downs designed for racing only problem is as i say not part of the super city

pollymay, Feb 22, 7:29pm
As much as I like hampton I live in pukekohe and remember good times when they were here since I got to hang with drivers and whatnot. Also the locals got to show off their cars at the parades and stuff to, it was more than just what was on the track, was a great time off it to which hampton being more in the middle of nowhere might not be the same. Puke it was watch racing, then go into town/round to someone's place and stand around some GTHO/broken NZV8 in a shed and shoot the breeze which was great.

socram, Feb 22, 7:46pm
It's only a few minutes further away, but I understand what you mean.Unfortunately, the Pukekohe locals near the track (including the new retail next door) have demanded a clampdown on the noise, so it is now measured trackside, not at the boundary. Shades of Western Springs -move in and moan.

HD apartment owners had to sign a clause that effectively stopped them complaining about the track noise, so the chances of the V8s returning to Pukekohe I would have thought was extremely slim, no matter how much local support there is, because the vocal 5% will probably veto it.

xs1100, Feb 22, 8:03pm
i also live in puke and think it would be great to have them return and with keys offering some money towards gettting track back up to speed think the locals could be fighting a losing argument

rednsr, Feb 22, 8:08pm
I can vouch for this. I was at the circuit on saturday for an open test session and three bikers were told they could no longer take part in the day due to the fact their bikes exceeded 95db. There was a guy standind at the pit exit with a noise meter

ninja_man, Feb 22, 8:17pm
same when the d1nz boys were there. half of the cars had to park up for the day due to noise. crazy how a few low life f**k wits can ruin it for the rest.

pollymay, Feb 22, 8:27pm
I know one of the guys that holds the noisemeter and pushes for it. He's a grade A moron. He LOVES being able to lay down authority. He has been around a few times when I've been working on my racecars and tried to tell me everything wrong with them, how I should be a certified welder to be putting mounts in the cars, that my rollcage isn't MSNZ spec and therefore better to just take it out. He told me taking out my dashboard to install a side to side pipe brace was I quote "weakening the car's structure", this is an 80's plastic fantastic dash that bends just looking at it vs a 38OD 3mm steel pipe

He makes me want to punch him in the face everytime I see him cause he doesn't actually KNOW anything. He's just been given a bunch of rules to follow and thinks he is god's second hand man for enforcing them.

The worst part is he takes his moronism seriously.

EDIT: Didn't the horsey people own the block next to the track. Sold off their asset to keep their little cult afloat!

When the NZ Grand Prix left Pukekohe and the V8SCs left were the pivotal times for the circuit.
The retail development down the end of Manukau roadwhen efforts to maintain a buffer zone around the circuit failed was the beginning of the end.
There is no point in spending more money at Pukekohe when it could end up like the old Bay Park.

The FIA prefers national touring car championships to stay in one country. V8SCs should be run in Australia only.
The WTCC is FIA's international touring carchampionship.
Any NZ govt money should be for the WRC round which is shown globally (when the FIA gets the TV rights sorted out after recent problems)and does show images of NZ's countryside etc which has value for tourism promotion etc.

neo_psy, Feb 22, 8:46pm
My understanding was that horsey people owned the *track* - and they didn't like the noise. Disturned the horses and whatnot.

I'd be stunned if the V8s ended up back there. But not unhappy.

pollymay, Feb 22, 9:23pm
They don't like ANYTHING, courtesy first and foremost. A few of them owe my dad money to. We gave them some free items for the inner track tractor of the time when dealing with us just to shut them up like badges and whatnot to replace the ones that had fallen off and they got up in arms the badge flaked after 3 months cause it was a chinese cheapy plastic one, whoop de do, buy your own then or deal with not having one at all.

They are arrogant, they insist on being that way.

1ollie, Feb 23, 12:38am
I am sorry but if your stupid enough that you cant see that Pukekohe is in its last years as an automotive race track well your just stupid!
For starters dont get me wrong its probably the track I like the most in NZ currently, but if your not up to date on the whole situation just take a drive around it an the whole area, you will see that the noise haters have allready won and it is just a matter of time before its shut down for good as its just another Bay Park situation!
Feel free to correct me if im wrong but im sure the people who have any clue will agree!
Also dont take it that im saying motorsport is dead there now as it clearly has quite a few more years of life left in it yet but just not enough for most peoples liking!
And as for someone that will pour money into it! umm who!

nave12, Feb 23, 6:00am
Yep Pukekohe was awesome with the parades,i was in the Ford parade every year it was on,they even mixed the last parade. They had Fords and holdens on the same night which was differant.

socram, Feb 23, 8:16am
A far as I am aware, JK has NOT promised cash for Puke. The radio news clip was cut short part way through, givinga false impression.

Just remember (I have said it many times before) that the previous government were the only people fighting the establishment of Hampton Downs. All the locals were either happy about it, were bought off or bought out!

Noise measuring trackside is a total farce- it should only be measured at the boundary. Many race groups are for roadgoing cars and you wouldn't even hear them at the boundary, so whilst racing may well continue at Pukekohe (and I too enjoy racing there), long term, don't be at all surprised if noise limits are tightened to an extent where you'd never see F5000's there again.

Noise tests at Hampton Downs (24 hour test) showed the noisiest time to be about 6am - from the dawn chorus! Some people hear noise and only because it comes from a race car or bike, do they object.

We can hear Western Springs on a Saturday night even though we are over on the shore, but just because we can hear it, doesn't mean that it in any way adversely affects our peaceful life. The noisiest things around here are defence and police helicopters.

twink19, Feb 23, 8:43am
Ive only raced at Puke 3 times in the last 5 years, compared with HD its a goat track

pollymay, Feb 23, 11:09am
So! I do dirt track which is below a goat track and have lots of fun. I can enjoy any of the tracks in the spectrum.

hopie, Feb 23, 11:18am
<-- also lives in Puke. hmm seems to be a few of us.

hopie, Feb 23, 11:21am
lol yup, big skids down the main. good times. till they stopped that too.

pollymay, Feb 23, 11:28am
Nah, we just moved onto the forecort of my dad's shop. Hydralink across the road had something like 7 cops turn up when an old HQ burned a couple rubber rings to the ground, it distracted them from the smallblock ford tractor my dad was doing burnouts on.

townie55, Feb 23, 12:10pm
I heard that the council turned up at Pukekohe with 4 noise control officers at a recent meeting and sent a number of cars home straight away.I believe the writing is on the wall for this track. Hard to see the govt putting money into this track when it's future is uncertain. The guys at HD have done an awesome job in the face of many doubters and skeptics.I say if there's money for motorsport, invest it there.

hopie, Feb 23, 12:28pm
isnt beds'r'us accross the road from Hydraulink

socram, Feb 23, 12:31pm
Len Brown's leftie, tree hugging, anti car, pro rail, super city strikes again eh!

pollymay, Feb 23, 12:57pm
It's all different now. This was when they were where the Brian Roberts building is now.

elect70, Feb 23, 1:04pm
Wont happenJK probably doesnyt know HD existsor the circumstances surrounding Pulekoe . Between thehorsey lot & the reatailers( Harvey norman biggestso dont buy from them )it will close for motor sportsooner rather than later .Then MSNZ will have to use HD if want an Auckland round of their teir 1 racing ( if its still going ) , that will be funnyas they have alwaysrefusedto deal with HD management/ownersaussie V8wont go there either, not enough $$ for them . But who cares HD has plenty of good Msportsoup theirs
