The word 'tires' is correct and is used in North America.
male_timaru,
Mar 1, 3:13pm
I didn't know this was North America and It certainly isn't the correct English spelling of the part of a car . lol
mugenb20b,
Mar 1, 3:16pm
It is the correct spelling, only used in different parts of the world. Kind of like Aluminium and Aluminum. Same thing, different spelling, and both correct.

i think the spelling on TM is due to the fact it has no spell check, i mean come on you don't need to spell when you have spell check
tonyrockyhorror,

No forum I'm aware of has a spell check and I'm a user of a fair few.

if you use Firefox it automatically checks your spelling on most forums including this one.

As a generalization, car enthusiasts tend to be pretty bloody illiterate people.
As another generalization, internet messageboards tend to attract pretty bloody illiterate people.
Where the two intersect, it's little wonder the results are pretty calamitous.

Theres bad spelling and poor grammer, then theres just plain appalling. Im somewhere between the two lol.But I notice people who point it out are useually on the looseing end of an argument or have very little real help to dish out in the first place.I dont think anyone has died as a result of poor message board spelling. Have they!

Phonics people Phonics, its wot they teach at skool to the kids theez dayz so as long as the word has the sound of wot u want to say then its good to go. It has cum bak in2 skools again. As the man says; "no-one has died as a result of bad spelling".[except the Bain family of course, it said not guilty when it should have said guilty]

the OP only has half a brain, half of the time. He is hardly a professor. People are lazy on forums, plain and simple. I dont have time to re read what i have written on forums otherwise it might make sense. Buggar that.

well, no. We use english spelling in NZ, and to use americanised versions is wrong. Would you drive on the other side of the road here because it is correct in another country.!

+1Exactly !The acceptance of other countries spelling norms is one of the factors that adds to the "challenged" writing skills of a lot of Kiwis

You know you're sad when you get up in the morning and eat breakfast while scrolling through the TMMB before going to work.

As far as spelling goes, which is correct!

So NOT English then . Because in England we write and say Aluminium (NOT Aluminum) or did they change text books in Science class!
Just because AMERICA (not known for its ENGLISH) says it - it MUST be right! lol - There is a REASON it is called ENGLISH - maybe you should read a dictionary to see why that is . lolAnd yes Americanisms have been added to the English dictionary over the years as a matter of course but i believe they are noted as such (ie not of English origin) and not as original words .
