I know I was doing the right speed I saw the camera but today they sent me a letter with a fine for $30 doing 55 in a 50 zone my speedo said 50 for sure.

has your speedo been professionally calibrated! cause the camera definitely has.

yes 16 years ago in Japan how can you win when you drive to what the clock in the car says
intrade,

check it with a gps unit and if it is true then we can hope a lawyer will help you for free so they whipe all other peoples fines who got shafted by the same camera.

Your speedo said you were doing 50kph, the camera 55kph. Either one could be wrong but id suspect the camera is more likely the correct one.
Can't trust gps too much either, I have 2 gps units and both have about 2kph speed difference between them for speed.

What happen to 10 kph over that gone now! Sure is easy money maker for em
spead,

pay up. Most privately owned cars do not have correctly callibrated speedos.
zak1998,

was not worth chasing it it's only $30 cost me more to chase it up but is a rip off money making thing but 5kph FFS

No speedo reads lower then what your travelling, They all read higher buy about 5km. If you want to get off your $30 ticket pull your speedo out and get it checked professionally and then pay the $30 ticket because they found your speedo to be in spec. Borrow someone's navman and go for a drive and compare your speedo with the speed the gps is saying. The speedo in my 2010 HighAce reads 8km higher than what my Navman says.

I was waiting for one of the "You done the crime, you do the time" gang to turn up.
Didn't take long - seven posts.
Sanctimonious, much!
Normally, the Law is about INTENT.
OP says, he was doing 50, he was INTENDING to stick to the rules.
However, motorists are regarded differently - they are an easy "taxation" target.
OP, get your speedo checked on a rolling-road.
IF it reads low, take the evidence to court, you can then show, your INTENT was to obey the Law, you have been caught-out by a normal manufacturer's tolerance.
It also proves, the 5Kph tolerance is not there for safety, but for revenue.
Good luck.

The law doesn't care what you silly intentions were You were speeding End of Pay Up Don't like paying fines ! Don't speed If you do speed Don't come on the MB crying like a baby.
jmma,

Are wheels, diff etc standard on your vehicle!
therafter1,
Mar 3, 9:18am
Sigh ! . some, like you, are never going to get it are you.
The OP was attempting to travel at the legal limit and believed he was travelling at the legal limit.
The 4k tolerance is a crock, and we are only seeing and hearing little snippets from the contributors on this MB. How many others are there out there that are unwittingly contributing to the govt coffers that we aren't seeing and hearing anything about hmmmmmm !

fark me 5ks over the limit! you should have a life sentence for that!grrr

All speedos are inaccurate. It just takes small changes in a number of areas to make thm even more inaccurate. Most read higher than actual, but that is not always the case.
All pulse doppler radar units are inaccurate.Just take a look at the electronic components usded to make them and you will find tolerance bands on each and every component. However they can be calibrated to be correct to within about 3% for a single target. When there are multple targets in the beam then the inaccuracies can increase.
All GPS units are inaccurate. For similar reasons to the radar inaccuracy. However because these use a single device and do not rely on phase shift etc, they are more accurate than radar.GPS will usually be correct to within 2%, except where the signal to one or more satellites is interrupted like among tall buildings, or when there is a change in satellites that are in view.
I have dual GPS fitted to my motorcycle and they are usually in agreement to within 1.6 km/h.My speedo is out by 10.5%.

One of our cars speedo reads low - "15 wheels instead of "14.

I tend to agree that 4 or 5kph tollerance is abit low for a number of reasons but sadly the fact is you got caught. If you were or if you wernt we dont know for sure as I think you do not either. Were you looking at that very instant you got caught! You say you seen the camara which is good as most of us when confronted with a camara or cop car automaticly check our speed regaurdless if we are speeding or not and adjust it. Useually to late anyway. The fact that you thought you had a 10kph tolarance also suggests that you were not that worried about the camara for that very reason therefore may not have realised you were a bit over the limit. If its fair or not hardly matters as thats what they have decided is the tollerance is at the momment and apart from being vigalant with our speed theres very little that can be done. Unless rioting in the streets would work but looking at other countrys it dosnt seem to. However a proper protest done correctly seems to. i:ethe motorcyle protests a few years back achieved something. Not alot but something non the less. As for protesting about being able to speed, well dont know if they would consider that to much somehow. I havent been caught speeding for years and years and once by a speed camara and I sit around 100kph, its not that hard. When I got pinged by a speed camara I knew I was speeding so fair cop really. I always know when im speeding and breaking any law for that matter so no real excuse or reason to moan if busted. Its only $30 bucks in the end, could be alot more if they wanted to be aholes about it.

Only my rear tyres speed, the fronts move slower.
vtecintegra,
Mar 3, 10:32am
That means you have incorrectly sized tyres on your 15" wheels
smac,

Just plain wrong.
friendly_prawn,
Mar 3, 10:49am
jeeze get a grip dude.
74nova,
Mar 3, 10:53am
I don't think so. The only reason it would read low is if the car has been modified.
smac,
Mar 3, 11:01am
Also incorrect, however lets go with that: what kind of unmodified car was the OP driving when he got this ticket!
shortee2,
Mar 3, 11:04am
But 10kmphover is, 60kmph, is not 50kmph, nor is 55kmph, you were speeding .End Of.
