I would assume you could.but a quick call to VTNZ would confirm to save you any hassle:) Otherwise.you could just get the WOF check done before you go to Chch! Some tips: -Do the basics and check your tyres (May as well do pressures at the same time). -Get a mate to help you check all exterior lights are working. -Top up your window washer reservoir. -Check struts for leaks. -Check CV boots for tears (if FWD/4WD). -Have a good look over for rust. -If you have a spare wheel, make sure its secure.

Not a reason for WoF rejection.

Unless the brake components or backing plates are covered in grease.

A split CV boot is NEVER a reason for rejection. Brakes covered in oil or grease is a totally separate matter and does NOT require replacement of said boot to pass.

if you do go elsewhere you will have to pay again as the money was paid to the first testing station and the other have not gotten any money from you so you have to pay for a newwof if you go elswhere.

True. A bit of a grey area that one.
OK, scenario for you: A car fails a WoF inspection due to grease from the split CV boot on the brake components. How would you remedy the problem in order to pass a WoF inspection!

Think about the obvious answer

Yes, so obviously, a CV boot is a fail in this case, unless you leave it for another few months until all the grease runs out.

The fail is gresse on braking components. The cause is the c.v boot. But all they have to do is clean the gresse of brakes and its a pass. Not the correct repair but it is acceptable .

OK, fair comment. Interesting to see how other people go about this problem.

If it was my car or a car that came in to the workshop it would be replace c.v boot and steam clean. But hey we all know what people try and get away with.
bellky,

that defies logic.

how!

seeing it was your quote i'm not surprised at your answer.
sorry if this doesn't help much.

My quote is quite correct according to the wof rule book. If I fail a car for gresse on the brakes due to a split c.v boot, the owner dosnt have to replace the c.v boot just clean off the gresse. Im not saying the repair is the right way to go but it is then a warrantable vehicle.

whatever mate. grease, doesn't, boot,, i'm. not having much faith mate

Sorry im not quite understanding what your getting at with that coment.

i'm sorry too mate. please forgive me. it's called ad hominem.
i'm, you're, comment

Yeah im sorry about the spelling not my strong point. And yes you have to explain what the minimum requirements are to get a wof. But also explain the best repair, which isnt always the cheapest.

I wouldn't worry about it, the dumb--- doesn't know how to use capitals correctly, so he's probably only using his browser's spell checker to correct you.
bellky,

i don't use capitals because lazy. i'm on internet explorer so no spell check
(presuming you're not talking about carmedic)

Yes he is, he??
jasongroves,

Yes, I know:) But as mentioned above, a split boot is the first step to grease leaking onto components and crap getting into the joint. If it was me, and the boot was split I would rather pay $15-$20 for a boot now than have to pay for a new CV later. Its just something that I check on my own vehicles, and pre-WOF time works out well for me for checking stuff like that. Prevention is the best medicine:) But otherwise, yes, you are totally right in regards to it actually being a fail.

Surely from the safety point of view it would better to getboot replaced.
