Very lucky that in NZ, they allow any road closures for motorsport events at all.

ftorres, Mar 28, 4:39pm
more pc crap from the new zealand government

smac, Mar 28, 4:44pm
Riiight.

trouser, Mar 28, 4:47pm
IWI probably having a cry because the organisers didn't pay any 'koha'.

ftorres, Mar 28, 4:52pm
yeah i bet. They dont mind anything as long as they get a cut, looks like australia's going the same way

morrisman1, Mar 28, 4:53pm
Pricks, and the organisers are almost worse for letting these clowns prevent a good event. Run the whinging grippers over.

brants, Mar 28, 5:01pm
Its a joke cancelled 3 days out.
The iwi can pay for my accommodation.

xs1100, Mar 28, 5:06pm

Three days out smells of "Money Please" due to the huge commitment of the racers. Either that, or they are just being selfish anyway.

noswalg, Mar 28, 5:18pm
now you know how us snowboarders feel, plenty of skifield development has been canned due to non approving iwi. Its supposed to be a "NATIONAL" park

flashgordon_nz, Mar 28, 6:27pm
been slaving over a mates car. we were going. i was set to co-drive.Big mess.

twink19, Mar 28, 6:47pm
they claim it will damage the mountain, moneymoneymoney. shame for the people who have prepared cars, I have been scrutineering some, very well prepared

3tomany, Mar 28, 6:55pm
ride a bycycle i came across a group of them racing today taking the entire lane no road closure just one van staying ahead try that in a car and see what happens

paddyman, Mar 28, 7:11pm
John Tamaiki Key bending over again for the brown people, and they say NZs not a racist country!, but when they want to block off the harbour bridge or a busy main street for a Hikou (think i spelt it wrong) the white folk have no problem with it! well we do but we arent allowed to upset them. How bout a bit of give and take instead of , take take take.

hounddog2, Mar 28, 7:11pm
They shut down roads for cyclists runners all the time why cant we have a small out of the way road for a day ! too hard i says not green enough!

kcf, Mar 29, 6:05am
So they think that 30 cars using the road a day + support traffic, is more harm and risk than the usual multiple hundreds (or thousands) of cars using the car every day of the week for the rest of the year!

Mmmmmmkay."special" maths must be going on there. The kind of "special" maths that suggests somebody had their hand out for money they didn't get.

smac, Mar 29, 6:12am
Did you even READ the article linked! The authority closed the road.

paddyman, Mar 29, 8:05am
Due to pressure from the IWI, they were going to block the road in protest,,,,mm! shame really.

rsr72, Mar 29, 8:09am
-'Taniwhas' made 'em do it.

smac, Mar 29, 8:11am
I think you've completely misunderstood the situation.

1. An application was made to close the rad, to hold a motorsport event.

2. The local authority granted the closure.

3, The local Iwi, for whatever reason, said they were going to (in effect) have a sit down protest on the road.

4. The race organiser decided to call it off due to safety concerns, Police not being able to clear road etc.

It's a messy unfortunate situation, but the comments about this being the government or local authorities fault are really just baffling. The RESULT is the Iwi and race organiser not reaching an agreement. The cause is anyone's guess.

Che Wilson is a "paid" Maori consultant, he does not get paid unless he has something to consult on, guess what, he will be consulting with organisers on this manufactured issue going forward. The guy is a thief, I will share a quote "Local government needs to learn that consultation doesn't mean just telling tangata whenua what it is going to do." What 'Mr Che looking for more pay' is really saying, "Local Government need to learn that consultation means iwi will decide what happens". Isn't that the reverse of the situation he is describing? Local Government can't hold iwi to ransom, but iwi can hold anyone to ransom.
Instead of the usual Maori tax on existing events, which lets face it is what this is about, consult with us for 50k and you can do it, how about Maori organise their own events instead of spoiling everyone elses.
This business of "consultancy" needs to stop, it should never have started. Che Wilson has no other interest than personal gain, he has fabricated a story about old trees, drops in words with no real meaning in an attempt to justify concerns as belief related. Che Wilson is a leach on the system, he is one of the crazy people getting paid to harp on about adding letters like the h into wanganui. He is paid to create problems, if we can have thousands of cars going up over winter, why not a few over summer, yes it's rhetorical, there is no reason, well none with any logic, but you knew that anyway because they are Che Wilson reasons.

How is it the Mountain was given to the crown by the Cheif, not too long ago either, yet we have Maori claiming he didn't have the power to give possession. Yet again we have an issue with changing of the goal posts, and you wonder why no one with sound mind wants Maori in control of the foreshore. Their is no head to this snake, make a deal with one and another claims they were not the right group to make a deal with.
Che Wilson should focus on real issues and not trade in taniwhas.

twink19, Mar 29, 8:56am
money money money, nothing else but greed, why cant every one work together rather than always have their hand out, IWI (I want it)
