yeah but its the government that gave them that position to have a say on these things, we all know that once they start getting rewards the hand keeps coming back out

From Stuff "Ruapehu mayor Sue Morris said she had been "quite nervous" about the event because the organisers hadn't planned it well and had only approached the council a month ago." I think I heard something on radio that when the organisers approached the council they still hadn't completed all the required paperwork or arranged insurance. Maybe the IWI is a convenient excuse.

Normally road closures are applied for months in advance.
Not sure what the entry fees were, but at least one entrant has switched to the classic meeting at HD on Sunday, though the ACC meet at Pukekohe could also do with more entries.
Overall, race entries this year have been well down on last year and the year before.

$500 entry fee. included reece, practice, one timed run on sat, 3 timed runs on sunday. There is a lot of of sh*T& being slung about it, and sad to say, i feel the organizer made the right decision to call it off. However, i can't believe that they acted only in the last few days. the correct road closures appear to have been done (otherwise Mototrsport NZ wouldn't have issued the permit). Their apparent threat was to "picnic with family and kids in the middle of the road to stop the event".

Run them over with a horse, confuse the PC brigade with an outta nowhere turn of events
Hmm. yeah. the car i normally co-drive in is entered, as a shakedown to break in his new co-driver. Im contemplating doing it in my own car, but the car we have for the ohakune event would be able to run. LOL
I say good job but it wouldnt surprise me if they made it up too make the racers etc look bad. Interesting that she doesnt say anything about iwi members hitting cars with sticks at there picnic protest and abusing racers driving by.
Im not against the enviroment but this is a road used by thousands of people each winter in terrible conditions a race really isnt going to do much. Signs can be repaired and trees grow back.
As for ohakune itself the place was dead. We couldnt get a refund on accomodation so we headed down anyway was nobody around and most the buisnesses that were open were only open in the morning and at night was very busy last year. They really missed out with this it had the potential to be a great event for ohakune

Didn't know you could have a sit down picnic on a public road.Lets all go try that on the Harbour Bridge and see what happens. As for the Po lice must have got it wrong cause I thought it was their job to keep the roads clear.Nah its a w onder they didnt say it was a cival matter - thats how you get the crime stats down. Most unimpressed. As for the Horse idea it would have to be a Kaimanawa horse would it not!
