I agree. Only downside to compulsory insurance is that this will be our weakness and it will increase year in year out. same as everything else

Extend the checks out to 12 months across the board and get the cops to crack down harder on the dickheads driving vehicles with obvious roadworthy problems, we already have the pink/green sticker system in place to deal with this. And scrap the whole licensing system completely, its such a ludicrously inefficient, complicated, unfair to classic/multiple car and bike owners and people that do very low kms, and outdated system of collecting revenue it isn't funny, posting silly forms out to people and waste their time making them queue at testing stations/AA offices/Postshops (yeah I know theres an online option now).Slap on a little more fuel tax and/or tax the DRIVER, not the vehicle.NZTA already know what vehicles are registered to whom, apply a progressive discount if you own several vehicles that hardly get used, after all you can only drive one at a time, and chuck on even more discount if you have a clean driving record/haven't caused any injury crashes and thus ACC claims. And of course charge much more if you have caused crashes or otherwise been charged with other driving offences.Watch the standard of driving improve!

Extend the WOF checks out to 12 months across the board as it is in most other countries that have similar systems and get the cops to crack down harder on the dickheads driving vehicles with obvious roadworthy problems, we already have the pink/green sticker system in place to deal with this. If you buy or sell any vehicles in the time since you last paid your "drivers licence vehicle tax" your bill can easily be altered at change of registered ownership time. And of course charge much more if you have caused crashes or otherwise been charged with other driving offences.Watch the standard of driving improve!

the only thing that will improve is a large increasein the number of unpaid fines and unlicensed cars.
why do people always think the answer is to enlarge the size of fines or lengthen sentances.

ok lots of experts here on what happens in oz.me I am no expert I only know Victoria as I spent 30 yrs there.some one said you get car confiscated
WRONG Canary was the term a yellow sticker to repair and get new wof take to police station they remove Canary
wof or roadworthy in Victoria Is generally got by seller.but you can buy car without one.then it is up to you to get one (wof) once you have that is it for the life of the car.I had one car for about 20 years.of course it relies on the driver to take some responsibility for what they drive

I have seen cars in nz in worse condition to Victoria Australia

It should be compulsory in as much as it should be charged with rego (at a high cost) if the car owner is unable to produce a certificate from their own company.

Completely wrong down here in CHCH city and Waimakiririmost are not ex builders thats where a lot of problems are coming out from their lack of knowledge of the Trade

Yep and in Aussie I am pretty sure despite the lack of requirement to have a WOF (in most states, but even then there are conditions) is not causing accidents any more than here. It is still up to you to have a car that is fit to drive on the road in Aussie and the penalties are pretty harsh if your car is found to not be roadworthy. 6 months is too often, its a right pain in the bum having to schedule a warrant test so often, especially when you have several cars.

You can prove anything with stats lol. Sod the government and road safety, if I can save a few dollars I will. Only fair really since they're taking the piss with their licence costs on bikes.gotta get my money back somehow.
