Hey guys I'd like to ask your honest opinion here.
If a painter made a mess of a paint job would you pay him to fix the paint job!
If a mechanic fitted an incorrect part to a carwould you pay him to supply the correct part or for the correct part!
If an accountant made a mistake calculating a form of tax would you expect to pay them to fix up their mistake!

Nope not at all. If I made a screw up on a billboard job or shower job I would fix it up free of charge.

Accountants never make mistakes, you should know that

pericles, Mar 30, 12:43pm
accountants cannot be held responsible
other trades, yes

bellky, Mar 30, 1:11pm
Ever heard of negligence.

purple_blaze, Mar 30, 1:13pm
no.no and yes.

pericles, Mar 30, 1:15pm
with accountants, the client signs the papers off, not the accountant

purple_blaze, Mar 30, 1:16pm
the trade qs your asking, under the consumers rights you are obliged to fix the f-ups at your own cost, you cant charge for that, unless you as the customer specifically asked for that part to be put in, or asked to paint your car purple then change your mind and want green.

True and grossly unfair. In all other trades, I would expect a tradesman to fix the stuff ups at their expense, but sadly, it appears that in the motor trade, my experience is that many don't, nor do they compensate if they have caused extra problems that have to be fixed elsewhere.

bellky, Mar 30, 1:39pm
I know this^. You're talking about a tax return. Are you an accountant!

When you employ a professional to carry out a task for you and they screw it up, you are entitled to take them to court for negligence.

tonyrockyhorror, Mar 30, 1:39pm
Only to the effect that the information supplied to the accountant is correct, not absolving the accountant of his responsibilities relating to his part of the work.

gmphil, Mar 30, 1:41pm
I dont sign off or pay till inspected and happy that jobs bein done properly

bellky, Mar 30, 1:54pm
Exactly. It's a disclaimer to the effect that the accountant is not responsible for the completeness/accuracy of the information supplied to it by the client.

ceebee2, Mar 30, 2:05pm
So why the question!

lyonruge, Mar 30, 2:17pm
No, i stand behind what i do. I I stuff up, i pay.

stevo2, Mar 30, 2:26pm
Why dont professionals do that! You go to a Doctor, pay $50 and get antibiotics to clear your STD. They dont work so you go back, another $50, then another etc.
If you die, do they refund all your payments to your family. After all, you did pay them to make you better.

panicky, Mar 30, 2:58pm
You should take it up with the professional that gave you the STD in the first place

kecal, Mar 30, 3:16pm
dental technician hereif i stuff a jobi redo it no questions asked .may not be my fault entirelybut i always help out to put it right. one badcustomer can kill your business.people talk.

pebbles61, Mar 30, 3:19pm
If I made a mistake I would be fixing it free of charge. This is of course depends on whether the client provided false/wrong information.

tonyrockyhorror, Mar 30, 3:42pm
It's because the diagnosis and treatment is not so cut-and-dried as with inanimate objects.

kazbanz, Mar 30, 4:13pm
Ok lets just say thatthe tradesman concerned was employed specifically because of their long term experience in dealing with this specific job/vehicle. not generically but specifically this one. There is a high degree of trust placed on this tradesperson based on their very long (15 years plus) experience. They make a VERY expensive mistake (read very as several thousand dollars) that they shouldn't have been able to make based on their years of experience.
They then want to charge to repair that mistake.

punkboy, Mar 30, 5:08pm
fair enough ,to redo the work at no charge but would/should they pay for parts/materials needed to do the rework!

ema1, Mar 30, 5:29pm
Small claims court or 'Fair Go should be in on this to get satisfaction,if in fact the above has actually happened or purely a random question to satisfy one's self doub't!

Small claims court or 'Fair Go should be in on this to get satisfaction,if in fact the above has actually happened or purely a random question to satisfy one's thoughts!
Has this happened to you personally kas, or has it happened to someone you are asking on behalf of!
If it happened to me I would expect it to be put right at no cost to me and the same should be true for any customer experiencing a similar scenario.
Frankly I wouldn't touch them with a "barge pole" .again and I'd be inclined to voice my mind to others contemplating any work to be done by said "outfit."!
If they don't stand by their quality of work then their reputation would ultimately suffer and if no satisfaction can be gained then a tarnished reputation is damn difficult to recover from.
The ball is in their court and should stay there until faulty job is corrected

tnt423, Mar 30, 5:30pm
I would think any good Tradesman/Company would pay to fix the problem they caused at no cost to the customer.
