Recieved today from the HRC.

"Hampton Downs is proposing to host the next round in April 2013 and has a park and ride plan to host 60,000 spectators per day. The apartment owners have agreed to pay for their extra guests during the V8 SuperCar meeting to assist Hampton Downs in securing the event. There are strong rumours that Auckland City and the Government are going to spend millions of dollars upgrading Pukekohe circuit to host the V8 SuperCars because it is in the Auckland City area, but as an Auckland rate payer and tax payer we are not impressed. Hampton Downs is the best option as it needs no money to upgrade the track or pits, has no noise issues and already has 27 corporate boxes available. Pukekohe will become another Western Springs and the money invested there will be wasted."

NO WAY PUKEKOHE!

puke is such a crappy track. the only reason people go there is because its near auckland.any where else and it would have been closed.

upgrade hampton downs and have a real track

Old storyAuckland or nowhereChochrane just wants thebig corporatesworried they may not like HD,F *&#Aussie V8 & all the corporate tents filling 90 % available goodspace for spectators, it would mean the In feild would beout for joe public& probably thetop of the embankment tooHopeHDdoesntget it .

twink19, Apr 19, 1:29pm
why waste money on Pukekohe, already have problems with noise police, there are other tracks (tasmania) that are shorter, HD would be great. No need to spend millions, its all therewe all need to write to John Key

foxdonut, Apr 19, 3:43pm
Look on the bright side, at least there will be money spent on racing in NZ in 2013.

newtec1, Apr 19, 3:53pm
Yeah but at who's expense,Puke or HD

foxdonut, Apr 19, 4:01pm
The way I see it we can't have everything, but we might as well have something.

An improved track is going to be usable after the SC season and the location might make it possible for something that no one is thinking of right now.

I'd rather the money gets spent on a track some place I can't use it than wasted on some stupid bullshit like a "green initiative to recycle nappies" or some equally useless "indigenous events centre" etc.

fordcrzy, Apr 19, 5:30pm
hampton downs is the future! god what is it with numb nuts who think that puke is a great track worth developing. its a dump!

having been to many tracks in australia both for v8s and club days i can say for sure that "ordinary" tracks like hampton downs are more than capable of hosting V8's.

leave puke to the nags and develope the future of motorsprt in NZ.hampton downs and Taupo

socram, Apr 19, 5:59pm
Look at it only as a spectator (long term - ignore temporary stands and infrastructure), Pukekohe's biggest problem is that Jennian (apart from the entry), the esses, the back straight, and the hairpin are all out of bounds, leaving the mountain and the front straight as the only places from which to spectate, Jennian is only really viewable from the Grandstand anyway which would cost extra at anything other than at a club meeting.

Because it is owned by the Franklin Racing Club, the chances of a corner after railway, looping back parallel to the front straight, then left again, up to join the back straight at some point is nil. It also means that unlike places like HD and Taupo, there is no option for a club & national circuit as well as an international one.
Throwing more money at Pukekohe is of dubious value and cannot be easily recouped.
Extending the track at HD for say $2.5m (an accurate cost) would bring in an extra income stream from the planned club circuit and therefore would be money well spent.

The HD owners have F#%ked up too. They have ran out of money to finish the raceway and want v8 supercars to sign up so they can borrow some more .If you heard about a company having financial difficulty would you invest in it!

fordcrzy, Apr 19, 6:39pm
best time to buy in i reckon.when people realise what a dog puke is.hamptons value willgo up

msigg, Apr 19, 6:43pm
Bring back puke, has the train service right there, and town centre. Simple.

socram, Apr 19, 6:43pm
Just for your information and any other doubters, HD is trading in the black.Tell us all where you heard they were in financial difficulty!

Since when did having a local train make the racing better!

fordcrzy, Apr 19, 6:51pm
more evidence of dense aucklanders.

my god on what effing planet is puke a good track! name ONE track thats worse than puke in terms of layout.i cant think of one.sure there may be smaller tracks, but they are still betterthan a glorified driveway around the outside of a nag track

patiki1, Apr 19, 7:17pm
Why do you think the Auckland City Council, the Government and v8 Supercars wont sign up then!

newtec1, Apr 19, 7:33pm
#1 It's outside the Auckland council zone ,# 2 they are concerned with parking and trafic flow in and out of the place, and # 3.maybe you could enlighten us.!

patiki1, Apr 19, 7:43pm
#1 Maybe Hamilton City Council can help!

newtec1, Apr 19, 7:47pm
Yeah im'e sure they would be only to happy to after the SC loss, except it's not in Hamilton,Frankton i think!

singing1, Apr 19, 7:56pm
You really should back that comment up with some evidence that HD owners have effed it up.

twink19, Apr 20, 5:09am
it does seem like its a game to Tony Cockrane, HD would be goos, unless they want to go to Taupo

bill-robinson, Apr 20, 5:55am
just tell cockrane if he wants to run his aussie car parade in this country he pays the track owners.

floscey, Apr 20, 6:56am
Tony Cochrane wants 2 million upfront to go to hampton downs.why would you even consider giving that sort of money up .Let them bugger off and screw over somewhere else. These stories follow the v8s from town to town .Hamilton isnt and wont be the last track to fail and be left in the crap by V8SC.Councils are easy to fool , track owners arnt .Thats why they want street races .

! So you can get there in the first place! Not everyone likes sitting in traffic for hours (maybe you do!).
HD was a mistake from day one, middle of NOWHERE! will always get the hardcore fans but never the masses.

HD was a mistake from day one, middle of NOWHERE! will always get the hardcore fans but never the masses.[/quote]its only 15mins further from Auckland . You have to catch a bus from the car park in Hamilton .whats the diff !
