Bloody busy I tell ya!

VTNZ, ya done good by me

incar., Apr 14, 8:12pm
Vtnz is the easiest place to get a wof, hope all your vehicles are safe!

destiny6nz, Apr 14, 8:16pm
well hopefully they get rid of WOF soon

a.woodrow, Apr 14, 8:20pm
they sure are easy. bought a diesel nissan navara once with a wof issued that day from vtnz, none of the three rear seatbelts would buckle in and it was dripping fuel from the leaking pump - was leaving puddles everywhere. but all good had clean sheet wof.

pollymay, Apr 14, 8:22pm
VTNZ are the hardest/easiest. Some places are completely lax, others fail you for paint chips. I won't use them

sfw4, Apr 14, 9:30pm
gone burger. but rego and Insurances will sky rocket. NZ is so way behind the rest of the Western World in ditching wof's. Even Cuba does better than us with their old 1950 yankee cars

twink19, Apr 15, 6:38am
no wof is fine, but who is going to make sure the cars driving around are road worthy! the ones with bald tyres, brakes that dont work and all the other items, not the people driving, a percentage of people only fix their cars after some thing has fallen off

807, Apr 15, 7:18am
system works for Oz, & they have loads more cars than us .

poppajn, Apr 15, 7:22am
You need the toilet, you,re talking crap.

twink19, Apr 15, 10:50am
they impound cars on the spot that are not road worthy, will they do the same here or just laugh and let them drive away

elect70, Apr 15, 11:12am
^^^^yepthey have roadsidevehicle checkpointsfail ,& its off the road there & then . Personally id rather a yearly WOF check . Remember NZ has a lot ofold jap imports aussiedoesnt ( wouldnt let them in . to protect local assembly )

magicmat, Apr 15, 11:19am
Yea I could go for the yearly idea - its such a pain in the rear having to do it every 6 months. Of course, I love my car so maintain it accordingly and I realise some people dont. But a yearly check is going to take them off the road pretty swiftly.
The Aussie system works much better (of course it differs slightly in each state) and if you get pulled up with a poorly maintained car you get slammed hard. Doesnt seem to have resulted in them having a proportionately higher road toll than us - in fact I would guess we are worse (I am guessing).

edangus, Apr 15, 1:16pm
I dunno about that, these guys know I am pretty fussy and like to keep the Wife and Daughters cars in primo condition. Been using the same blokes for 5 odd years now.

a.woodrow, Apr 15, 1:30pm
Why is it that people believe if they change the wof requirements that they will have to drive an unsafe car! Nobody is going to stop you taking your car in for a safety check regardless of wof legislation!

franc123, Apr 15, 1:55pm
Bang on. As it stands now if you suspect there may be a roadworthy issue with your vehicle you are legally required to get it checked out and repaired ASAP, whether your car passed a wof several months ago and still has several months to go before the next check is irrelevant. The label effectively means that the inspector was satisfied that it complied when inspected. Its all there in black and white in that fine print on the back of the checksheets.

jarrod261, Apr 15, 1:57pm
Maybe the owner should start taking responsability for their car.
Why is it that so many people rely on someone else to do stuff for them.
Not like its too difficult to walk around your car and check that things on it still work.

babcorp, Apr 15, 1:58pm
Think police have more than enough to do than doing wof checks on cars!

johnf_456, Apr 15, 3:49pm
Personal responsbility is long gone in NZ. Sad but true.

franc123, Apr 15, 6:14pm
They have enough time to target BR's and their various mod's on cars and have had training on what justifies pink or green stickering I don't see why they can't be asked to do quick checks on random items on cars that don't fit the above category as part of check points for drink driving etc.

modie61, Apr 15, 6:22pm
If they do away with wofs will they do away with cofs !

a.woodrow, Apr 15, 6:25pm
They would be better off doing away with rego. why pay rego on multiple vehicles when you can only drive one at a time! better to pay to be a 'registered' driver instead

franc123, Apr 15, 7:44pm
Yep, the current system is grossly unfair on multiple car and bike owners who for the most part use only one car but have several toys that get used on a semi regular basis. The driver should be registered and your record as a driver should determine what you pay, if you have a bad driving record and have caused injury crashes and thus ACC claims, you get socked with higher fees for your registration as a driver and vehicle operator, if you don't, make the fees cheaper much in the same way like a NCB discount for insurance works. Good drivers shouldn't have to be making the same or even more contribution to the ACC coffers as bad ones simply because of the amount of vehicles they own!

supernova2, Apr 16, 9:24pm
Since the topic has switched to ACC levy the only way that I can see that would make it fair (well a bit more fair) is to incorporate the levy into the fuel price. At least that way the dimbulbs who drive unregoed cars will still be paying a levy to pay for the damage they do when the drive into a pole or tree or wall at a bout a zillion km in a morris minor tubo!

incar., Apr 17, 12:31am
you winner!

pauldw, Apr 17, 4:56am
You come up with a personal plate holder the allows the driver to easily put his own plate on what ever he's driving and the system might change. Big Brother still wants to send speeding tickets etc to somebody.
