why do people indicate right when going straight at a roundabout!

captaingraham, Apr 22, 7:33am
Because they are stupid and don't have a clue what to signal

intrade, Apr 22, 7:34am
that would let the person on the left first exit know that he is not turning left .he needs to indicate left when he exits , so techically its right indicator then left to exit roundabout, There is no straight on a roundabout. its only straight because roundabouts are way to small to start with.

this is how it should be done. now there is no secound lane on a roundabout that is 5 meter in diameter like the half *its build in whangarei You can see the car indicating right wen he enters also is suposed to use the right hand lane.

Copy from NZ road code

If you are going 'straight' through a roundabout:

don't signal as you come up to the roundabout
signal left as you pass the exit before the one you wish to take. At some small roundabouts it may not be possible to give three seconds warning, but it is courteous to give as much indication as you can.
As I said, many people don't have a clue what to do

We who live in NZ use NZ rules

aliru, Apr 22, 7:48am
wouldnt it be nice if NZTA run a some adds to reeducate some of the countrys drivers to the correct way to indicate, as there seems to be some confused drivers.

poppajn, Apr 22, 7:50am
What,s so hard, you indicate out of a roundabout, not in

intrade, Apr 22, 7:59am
Did they not just change the rule right hand give way to be like the rest of the world!

'captaingraham' is correct. What's more, it's the same as the UK anyway.

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 22, 9:07am
What's so hard! You indicate right before entering if you're going more than half way around.

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 22, 9:16am
The design depends on where the greatest flow is heading. Like here:

the roundabout rules only make sense when the roundabout is more than 40m across--otherwise its utter nonsense.

skin1235, Apr 22, 1:15pm
gasp, shock, horror, the poli's have had about 3 goes at this one

and still haven't figured it out yet

russ18, Apr 22, 1:53pm
Why quoting UK rules!

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 22, 1:59pm
In what way!

brants, Apr 22, 2:00pm
Because theres lots of stupid people on our roads. The other day i saw a cop indicate right when going straight through.

skin1235, Apr 22, 2:13pm
I know I'm not legally obliged to but I do the same, at least the driver waiting at the next entrance has no indecisive moments then drives out in front of me cos he thought I had just forgotten to indicate my intent to exit before I got to him and figured he was therefore safe to carry on - thats if he was even capable of considering what another driver on the same road as he was likely to do

skin1235, Apr 22, 2:17pm
it takes a few seconds to let him know my intent to pass in front of him - I know, it's crazy, and I don't have to swap details with some ignoramuswho thought I was going to go left but hadn't indicated

p_rock, Apr 22, 2:19pm
Anything other than indicating left would let other drivers know he's not going left, lol. It's dumb when people do this. And what are people who are on the opposite side meant to think! He's turning right! So you're giving way to a ghost and missing a chance to enter, lol.

petemun, Apr 22, 3:36pm
you sure about that

pup2, Apr 22, 4:57pm
and left if using the 1st exit

petemun, Apr 22, 5:28pm
do not indicate entering a roundabout if you're going straight through quote: you should signal left as you pass the exit before the one you wish to take
