Do yourself a favour. Set it on fire and buy something else

curlcrown, Apr 30, 10:09am
I second that.

3tomany, Apr 30, 10:11am
i third that. find a scrap metal dealer fast

elect70, Apr 30, 11:31am
Putpetrol rag intank & light it up like a big neon sign , ,cryslers answer toGm scavalier !

hamhonda, Apr 30, 11:34am
What year is it!

nightboss, Apr 30, 11:48am
What a nice helpful bunch you are (except hamhonda), you see the make and model and start snickering, you should be ashamed but probably are not. Not everyone can drive around in whatever they want, some have to drive what they can. I hope some decent people are around that can help Denise451.

mugenb20b, May 1, 10:14am
I understand where you're coming from, but I think most of the above posters actually gave good advice. Sometimes, it's simply better to cut your losses and buy something decent rather than spending time and money ressurecting a heap of shit car that is very likely going to keep on giving problems.

realtrader1, May 1, 10:31am
Whatever you may personally think about a particular car, there is no excuse for the kind of cavalier and rude way of writing that's been going on in this thread.Everyone needs to feel that they can ask and or contribute, without thinking they may be laughed to scorn, really, don't you think! So, unless denise has not been scared away, offer helpful advice or, well, not at all.

nightboss, May 1, 11:03am
"Do yourself a favour. Set it on fire and buy something else"
"I second that."
"i third that. find a scrap metal dealer fast"
"Put petrol rag in tank & light it up like a big neon sign , , cryslers answer to Gm s cavalier !"

You can't be serious to think the above quotes come under the category of "posters actually gave good advice".

It makes me mad when smug people rubbish other people without any understanding of the difficulties they may be in. That is just bullying.

I do not know the situation Denise is in other than she needs to get another gearbox for her Chrysler Neon. When she reached out to motoring members here she gets slapped across the face in the first four replies.

Those that have been here on motoring MB for a while know I rip into idiots and liars, but only after they have clearly revealed themselves as such. AND I DON'T BACK DOWN.

Denise - please reach out again. If you are still looking for a gearbox for your Neon a little more detail will help those willing to assist.
What year is your Neon and is it Auto or Manual gearbox!

tgray, May 1, 11:19am
I think previous posters are making a point (ableit in a blunt or perhaps humorous way!) that the cost of a transmission replacement would make it uneconomic to do, unless you have a sentimental value attached to the car.
The only one coming across 'smug' as you put it, is perhaps yourself.

elect70, May 1, 12:20pm
Maybe she didnt know those things were a lemonso we have given her good advice, Thecostofanothe box & fittingbetter put towardsanothercar .Scappies paying up to $500 for complete cars

3tomany, May 1, 1:43pm
the fun police are out today. remind me to never have fun on mb ever again.i think op would know we were having fun but honestly it could be good advice to get rid of the car. uptight mb police who think they stand on a moral mountain way higher than the rest of us should just sod off.

nightboss, May 1, 2:45pm
Don't ever have what you describe as fun on MB again. There, you have been reminded.

mantagsi, May 1, 3:10pm
OK, perhaps it could be rephrased in a nicer way. Instead of advising OP to burn their car (which was my first idea for a response also :P) maybe I could VERY POLITELY SUGGEST (capslock on so noone mistakes that I am being genuinely polite here) that the OP sells the car as quickly as they can and purchases a better vehicle. The reality is good cars ARE cheap, and the cost to repair their neon and deal with the untold subsequent issues would more than cover the cost of a reliable replacement. Replacement might not be particularly pretty but even something like a fiat multipla would be preferable! So yes, OP, in the nicest possible way, please sell your car and purchase something of higher quality. Pretty much any other car would be better (provided it isnt american compact)

tgray, May 1, 3:32pm
starting another thread to try and catch me out aye!
You really are something!
Your time would be better spent chasing the hundreds (yes, hundreds) of illegal car traders on here that DON'T say that they are dealers, not the ones that do!

That is rather paranoid of you to assume you are the only reason I started that thread. I named no individual trader or member in the thread though there are a few rogues around. The question I asked is genuine based on experience with more than one trader/member, the one that springs to mind most uses multiple names just in case they are identified. If I name any I could be accused of "singling out" which is a breach of TM rules, I know this because it is why I got my one and only caution.

That comes across as.kinda weird!

Try channeling.it's more direct.

zephyrheaven, May 1, 5:49pm
Some of the more helpful posters would offer advise, if you didnt pepper every single topic with the same moronic chest beating - isnt there a parking lot you should be keeping an eye on or something

intrade, May 1, 6:04pm
cant be worse then a mitsubisheap.

nightboss, May 1, 6:18pm
That is stretching the imagination a bit there zeph, helpful posters are withholding giving advice because Nightboss may comment on their wisdom.

zephyrheaven, May 1, 6:22pm
Come on mate, you do attack people for any kind of advice you might not agree with now & then - sometimes better to just let experience be the advice not a personal attack - just read & see what 90% of people are saying

I mean, I dont know about you & your experiences with the famed Chrysler (& I use the term loosely) Neon - they are utter rubbish & much like their twin brother the Toyota Cavalier, have been banished to only the most desperate of repairers (usually backyarders or dodgy garages stitching people into huge % financed repairs).
If the OP has the trans out already - they would be best to walk away, that is sound honest advice from someone in the trade with their own shop & had a bit of clout around here some decade ago

sw20, May 1, 6:30pm
Cut your losses nightboss.

You don't have the wit to be another tonyrockyhorror. You just come across as a c$^t.

outbidyou2, May 1, 6:33pm
haharha

nightboss, May 1, 6:42pm
I agree with you Zeph, the Neon is a rubbish car and walking away is a valid option. I find your postings balanced and often amusing. What got me started was the way the first few suggested it be done by torching.
Every time a new poster gets that sort of advice they will not return with more questions.
Had appropriate advice been given at the start of this thread (or even earlier when OP was buying) then I would be reading not typing.
Yes, as mentioned earlier and on other threads, I do rip into idiots and liars that earn the backlash.
Let's not fall out over a Neon of all things.
