Where speed cameras are set up in 60km zones I wonder how many people they snap compared to the same in a 50km zone! I recon it would be way less.

Works well everywhere. Well overdue in NZ.

over 11,000 tickets in sanson, not too surprising, the road is extra wide and has all the markings of the open road, camera is just before the bridge wanganui end as you come down the rise I suspect most of those tickets would be for less than 60km/hr too, but contribute $1m+ to the coffers

actually the camera in sanson is in the middle of the town opposite to where the "rawleys man"used to live

Just means that those who drive to the 10kmh tolerance will be travelling at 120kmh.A lot of people already drive at just short of 110kmh anyway.

Suggestions where this will be trialed if it goes ahead. Two that come to mind are [1] Ramarama straight - Drury to Bombay. [2] The Northern Motorway - Albany to Johnsons Hill Tunnels.
Any other suggestions!

The only places in aussie where the limit is 110 kph, are rural 2x 2 lane roads seperated by a wide (read 40 metre) median strip such as parts of the bruce highway. Not a lot of them here though.

^^ yeah what he said. All the 110 zones are the multi lane highways with big dividers between each direction. I reckon the stretch from Auckland to Ngaruwhahia should be 110, and maybe the stretch from Auckland to Orewa too.

Not true - I was on the Gold Coast last month and there were 4 lanes on either side of the highway with a 110km/hr speed limit. Plenty of vehiles doing a lot more though!

They should make it 140.

Uhm yeah that would be the bruce motorway.

It's not 2x2 though like the other poster mentioned though :)

It is in some places. but I don't see why you need a median strip to do 10kmh more

I am in the Pilbara in WA. The highways here are ordinary 2 lane roads, chip seal, white lines the only separation (ie much the same as a lot of NZ roads) and the speed limit is 110km/hr.

Gidday Cobber, do you know what the speed limit on the Eyre Highway (Nullabor Plains) is!

The motorway going north from Christchurch could easily be 110-120 with a big wide grass strip in the middle. Although after driving in the USA in the carpool lane to LA going 80+ mph next to a solid concrete wall i don't really see the need for a strip or a wall (if you hit it you're an idiot) as you still need to be paying attention which most kiwi drivers don't because we are too busy looking at our speedos or in our mirrors every 2 seconds a la driving test rather than the road on which we are driving.

Bring it on,It would be great to see 110 km/h specially on roads that are divided by a median barrier.

Mary Williams, id just like to say that physics are meaningless when you drive with open eyeballs
i.e. when you dont go round smashing into things
as it stands Mary there isnt many "dangerous" roads full stop. most of our highways are PERFECTLY FINE at 120

I think that Toll roads should have to be 120km/h, that would encourage people to use them and make them feel like they are getting value for their toll. The toll roads around here are all easily capable of coping with that speed.
Plus ALL state highways should HAVE to be maintained to a minimum 100km/h standard (unless an existing gorge etc). This business of peppering them with 90 km/h area's is simply not on, its confusing, causes unfair ticketing and is simply not on given its a state highway.

bruce highway stops when it gets into brisbane heading south, from brissy into the gold coast it becomes the gateway and pacific highway from memory
