How did you go with your vehicle Lou Lou! I'm interested to know of theoutcome.

Personal experience in hendos case but I still say it's wise to be prudent and mention NOT to go driving the vehicle until it's been thoroughly checked over by the EXPERTS ! Hands on diagnoses is the best way by far.

Thanks for the help guys, i'm STILL waiting on my mechanic to get back to me. My friends dad suggested putting bars leaks into the radiator to block up any holes and then getting it thoroughly checked like you guys have said.

Don't put bars leaks in it, that will block everything up. Just call out the mechanic or put it on a trailer, tow, to garage.

Mechanic said the oil and water are fine and he thinks the radiator is blocked so will clean it out and see if that fixes it. He said it will cost around $150 to do. Does that seem about right!

Yes that sounds fair, might pay to check the water pump on it too as if it's defective the cooling system will be compromised. Have you got it all done yet lou lou and how's it going now!

I've heard back from the mechanic and this is what he said.Got radiator to radiator specialist and watched while he opened it. Was 85-90% blocked, and the top tank was cracked and seeping out coolant. Being a plastic tank you cant rapair them. So he has to put on a new top tank, clean it out and then i can re install it. Have to also run it for couple hours with a slude breaker called simple green then completely drain and flush cooling system and refill with antifreeze. I would reccomend a thermostat to be done but being toyota they really have to be genuine and prob round the $50 mark. The radiator will be $265 with the new top tank and complete cleanout, and it'll be only couple hours to get it all back up and running and the simple green plus anti freeze etc. So without the thermostat maybe $350. Would you want me to do the thermostat also, i can price it tomorrow and txt you when i top up my fone!.Can't believe that after having the van for only a couple of weeks this happens and i have to fork out this much bloody money.

a good outome loulou, not uncommon for them to sludge up at that age, and quite easy to fix If it had had a rad flush chemical put through it a few months earlier it may have asaved you the expense you now have, but it is money well spent, it will fix the system and the vehicle will give you may untroubled km's now

Ok i am a mechanic that could mean a few things how ever doesn't mean thousands or even hundreds just fill it back up with water when it is cold and you should be fine to drive to your mechanic just if temp goes over 3/4 stop

You purchased a 16 yr old van with no service history and you didnt get an inspection! And it has cost you $350! You should count your blessings that you got off so lightly.

To bleed the cooling system simply park it facing forward up a very steep slope. has worked for me with countless cars. All you want to do is get the radiator cap to be the highest point in the system.
Good luck, I hope you haven't purchased a dud
