LMAO! What a load of crap.

buy a fiesta diesel if you want to save the planet.do some research before you get sucked in by a free greenpeace tshirt with every prius sale. several articles have stated that the HUGE price difference between the prius and fiesta you would need to drive the prius MORE THAN 200,000 MILES before the prius was financially viable some articles put it at 400,000 miles

Current hybirds including the Prius are for idiots or poseurs who are either ignorant or hyprocrites. The total lifetime environmental impact is not significantly different to any normal car. You will spend more on the higher upfront price than you are likely to ever recover from improved mileage, and that's presuming an improved mileage which isn't a safe assumption at all given the competition.

And that's without considering the opportunity cost of that extra money if you want to budget it toward "greenness" (which if you want to buy a Prius is essentially what you are saying). Buy a nice diesel hatchback and go buy some carbon credits with the money saved, it will do far more good on balance. Doesn't work so well as a Toyota advertisement though.

24k for the fiesta which is a MUCH better drive than the prius which is $6-7000 dearer. thats a heap of free diesel.

3tomany, May 31, 6:50pm
5.4 litres per 100k and the article says the car is miles behind fiesta for dynamics. in a nut shell it pretty much says avoid and get a fiesta. also pricing in aussie dollars not comparable to here

of to bed so just wondering does anyone else think this is a windup. us petrol heads sure do love the prius lol good nite

An urban myth spread by countless blogs parroted across the web and trademe mb for years. Come on guysreally. look into the credible facts and figures not some bloggers page that can not back their claims

bigfatmat1, May 31, 7:28pm
Why is the prius a environmental disaster that you all claim it to be! lay the facts down to back your claims

Why is the prius a environmental disaster that you all claim it to be! lay the facts down to back your claims. Most of the bashers here have no understanding of how a prius even works. Nor have they driven one.

why bother when a diesel fiesta is so much more fuel efficient

bigfatmat1, Jun 1, 10:07am
is it, have you driven one! the emisions are higher. If its anything like the 1.4 petrol the most plain boring small gutless car i have driven for a while. Again back your claims!

Buy a push bike, loose some weights and save the earth.!

elect70, Jun 1, 11:35am
If your driving isshort trips &mostly city driving then OKbut if long distancedrivernot worth the costas it will be 90%driving on thepetrol motor , get asmall deisel .

bigfatmat1, Jun 1, 11:49am
It is correct to say however because there is no direct drive between motor and wheels and engine maintains optimium performance that even on long distance and regenative breaking. the prius is still economical

3tomany, Jun 1, 8:40pm
the biscuits bigfatmat will need to fuel his pushbike will never be more efficient than a prius

^^^^^^^^^^^^^Fail^^^^^^^^^Just because someone does not share your uneducated views on something you feel like you need to throw in a personal attack. Good on ya. At least make it funny next time!

Prius C is a FAR better car than the original Prius and is a great city car - http://oversteer.co.nz/cars/first-drive-toyota-prius-c/ - but a diesel Fiesta is still better overall, especially if you are planning on doing any mileage outside of a city.
