took car in for warrant. dude listed 'engine light on'.(on dashboard). which i have since been told is an indication that it could be something wrong with the engine. i went and got a second opinion, from friend/mechanic who said that hes never known this to be part of a warrant check/pass-fail.(hes been doing wofs for decades) he also said it could be electrics. but that light has been on since i bought it and has passed numerous warrants with it. so im just unsure whether i should question this when i take it back in tomorrow actually i want to question it. just wondering if anyone else is in the know about it.

Not a warrant item.

*facepalm* Why would you choose to ignore an engine warning light! Not only that, for so long too.

Note to self. Never buy a car from the OP.

Did it actually fail or is it just noted on the wof sheet comments!
and is it definately the engine light or could it be the srs or abs light!

Is this the only reason your car failed a warrant check, or were there other issues and the check engine lightwas just an advisory. (snap) for above

Not part of WOF. But as they say above Its on for a reason!

its an informative fault light, not a safety fault light (like abs light) so cant fail you on it.

Not a wof fail

well we've established that! be interesting to know from the OP exactly what light it was.

Well of course it could be that the colour of the light matches her fingernails which would explain why she is reluctant to have it seen to.

Since the car has been running with the engine warning light illuminated for long enough to have passed several warrants like that, I think we can assume it's the engine light that is faulty, not the engine!

Nah there's any number of things that might bring the light on. it might be running rich due to a faulty o2 sensor, doesn't mean it's going to die on them

Poster doesn't say they failed the WOF on it, which they surely wouldn't. The tester was probably trying to be helpful in noting it for you. Don't be too hard on the poor guy.

Last WOF on my 05 Fairmont failed because they said the head light were to blue. Its been through I don't how many warrents like this and never failed.

Could be just a comment not a fail. Depending onthe make of vehicle ,the engine check light may have a ( service check interval ) incorp for powersteer fluid /oil change/ cambeltetc any thing to do with the power steering system is a wof issue though .Best to simply ask the wof inspector for more info, &further getauto electrics the( warning light) checked out.

well. im sorry. im a novice with all these things. about 4 warrants ago i asked the mechanic what this light was and he didnt know. so if he didnt know and i didnt know i assumed it wasnt important. i only found out what that light meant today.he said there was a leak in flange! whatever that is. but friend who helped me out sealed it but he couldnt see a leak in the first place. took it to mechanics too and got right under it to see but nope. couldnt see what this wof dude saw. will have to enquire tomorrow. funny how some of you jump to conclusions that im a right twit with all of this. just because i dont know doesnt mean im dumb. it just means i dont know.get off ya blimmen high horses.

thank you to those who have given me non judgemental informative information.

The leak/exhaust flange fail would of been a completely seperate issue to the engine light. You should really take it to someone who knows what they are doing and get it fixed.

Talk to the chap who did the WoF and I'd suggest finding why the light is on. Good luck.

Its not a wof item all though it should be because could be directly related to emisions but thats just my opinion. I would get it checked though. It is a warning lamp telling you something is wrong. If the fault was causing lean burn or detonation it could cause premature engine failure. Talk to a auto sparky!

yeah it was peculiar as to where i went today. they dont actually do wofs. they take it elsewhere to get the wof done. so i sat in waiting room. then they returned car, receptionist gave me the paper. but even she couldnt explain it to me.which is why i went to mechanical friend to ask questions. i think where i went has a deal with this other store to get them wofs. unsure. but i just wasnt that involved as i have been in the past. will take it directly to where the warrant was done tomorrow and ask the questions. for the other poster. i know flange isnt related to light (maybe). it was just what the other thing on the warrant that failed.the dude may have well just put them down as notes. but like i said. a receptionist who didnt know anything relayed info back to me. so. i didnt get a clear idea of what was vital and what was recommended.

Homer Simpson had this problem once, he fixed it by putting tape over the light, so you couldn't see it.
