Check the ECU. Although I know jack about Range Rovers had a similar thing happen on a friends early Mitsi. It wouldn't start - no spark. The igniter was getting really hot, turned out the ecu was sending power continuously to the igniter instead of the short pulses it is meant to send. Plugged in a spare ECU the friend had and the engine started fine on the same coils and igniter. (and the igniter stopped getting hot also) If the ECU is sending out some leakage current along with the usual pulses the engine will still run but might have weak spark. (The ecu is turning the ingiter 1/2 on instead of either full on or off) The igniter and coils will get very hot due to the DC current going through them. Also if the ECU tries to hold all of the coils on continuously the combined current will easily be enough to blow the engine main fuse.
