I sold a watch I refurbished to a guy. I gave him good feedback as he made fast contact/payment. He then emailed me asked if I could / would refurbish a collectible watch his dad had. I said I could and he was goiing to bring it here. I then read on a public forum (its an NZ watch collectors forum - yes, such things do exist) that he's stated I'm not a Watchmaker (I did a Watch and clockmake apprenticeship and Trade Cert) and he was unhappy with the watch I'd sold him. This could led me to missing out on work and is completely untrue. He hasn't left me feedback yet. He hasn't commented to me about its condition or whatever either. What should I do or should I do nothing! *I know its not Motoring.

Are you already known by posters in that forum and if so, do they know the truth about your credentials! If they do, you probably don't need to do much. The guy sounds like a bit of a clocksucker.

State your case to whoever administers the site. Even watchmakershave moderators dont they!

You could consider posting your credentials on the thread and ask them there why they did not tell you they were unhappy and actually asked you to do further work. Keep it super polite and civilised if you do.

A clocksucker! Ha. I needed a laugh ;-) I'm not a member of the site. It was set up by a guy who's not a watchmaker (he knows a lot now though) but sells high end watches here. He gives his watches a quality rating based on the site. Yep, he'll use any tactic to promote what he's selling. Trademe have removed some of his usernames. Its not a place I want to 'belong' and I don't go there often (a couple of times a year).

Hang on a minute - is this a wind up!

Just tell him you're ticked-off & if it goes to court it will be a long case & you've got no time for him. Second thoughts, this sounds like a wind-up.

On the other hand.

Is the guy who's bad-mouthing you the owner of that forum! Or just a poster there!
If it's his own forum, not much you can do I guess.
If he is just a participant there, go straight to the moderators / owners with a very strong case as to how wrong the guy's comments are and asking for them to be taken down. Nip it in the bud before it becomes accepted knowledge that you're some dodgy bugga.
Did you insist on cash payment because there's no tic !
