Yes, that happens to, especially with flat deck utes. A lot of gravel and mud gets thrown about behind the tail light assembly by the rear wheels and wires get broken off at the holders and / or bulbs rusted in place. Because of that, we carry a few common tail light assemblies in stock and we just change them over, takes around 15 minutes. Sometimes, pigs and goats eat the tail light wiring and if the damage is too time consuming to remedy on the spot, we simply rebook the job for another time / day.

Depends on the circumstances really. If it's a regular customer, and we can get the car in and out within an hour, we only charge out the parts. 80% of our customers are regulars and farm owners, so it's not just their cars we work on. One day, they may have a wof check done, next day, two chain saws to repair, day after a tractor tyre, etc.

VTNZ cannot justify significant price increases for any reason at all, regardless of what the current MOT review recommends to Cabinet later this year. All that would do is drive more business elsewhere. A change to a more involved test would have to occur first, which is highly unlikely. It's going to be interesting to see NZTA's justification for retaining an inservice testing regime at all given the miniscule amount of fatal accidents caused by vehicle defects. In several places around the world, including a number of states in the US have ditched them completely or only made checks compulsory when private cars change ownership, that is one of the proposals. Something that no doubt VTNZ/MTA will be trying very hard to prevent.

Actual wof fee is, in some ways secondary! What is of primary importance is that the garage is fair, honest, not trying to rip you off by offering a cheaper fee but then being pedantic and overly fussy.I have encountered just that and I go back to the tried and trusted where they offer great service. Now, sure, if it's cheaper and good reliable service too, well that's a bonus!
