twink19, Jul 2, 6:24am
depends where you go, prices vary

aoc1, Jul 2, 6:27am
mine was $30 with $1500 in repiars cries.

the_chooky, Jul 2, 6:36am
$51 at the local garage. Finally given up on VTNZ after they failed my work ute when there was nothing wrong with it.

tgray, Jul 2, 6:37am
It always amazes me to see the queue at VTNZ to pay $51 for a WOF, when the local garage does them for $25, especially when they will fail you for having no water in your windscreen wiper bottle.

zephyrheaven, Jul 2, 6:38am
Yikes, better hike mine - at $36 they are too cheap, but then loads of places in Chch doing $25 - not sure on their hourly rates but I couldnt afford to live on $25 interruptions all day ha ha

les6, Jul 2, 6:41am
paid $50 for thecar and $25 for the trailer the other day,car failed on a perished cracking power steering belt which i know needs doing but never been checked on that before!

zephyrheaven, Jul 2, 6:45am
Part of your steering system - so gotta be checked, try driving around most modern cars now with no belt on - blardy hard on the arms lol

mugenb20b, Jul 2, 6:46am
We charge $50 for a car and $30 for a trailer. However, when cars do come in for WoF checks, we will do what we can for that car to obtain a new WoF the same day, should it fail on small items. Like putting a spare tyre on if one is bald, puncture repair, light bulbs, wiper blades, etc. And we won't charge extra for labour in those circumstances.

stevo2, Jul 2, 6:53am
I paid $42.90 toady at VTNZ ($52 less 17.5% discount). Never been midweek before and only took a few minutes. One thing I did notice when they had the lights on was that the rear no plate lights werent working. They missed that one and wrote out the warrant.

neville48, Jul 2, 7:06am
Woo Hoo.thats target material there, you should set it up and put yur soiled knickers under the bonnet so the narrater says "and whats he up to now, he shouldn't be doing that" gotcha haha.

unbeatabull, Jul 2, 7:21am
Windscreen washers are a WOF Item tgray, have to remember it is not the Inspectors job to diagnose a problem, they are there to simply check it meets the system checks.

In saying that, I have no sympathy for VTNZ Inspectors, to many times they have failed customer cars and they've came to us and has been absolutely nothing wrong or have made up a new law in the VIRM that we haven't got yet

supernova2, Jul 2, 7:28am
Just being a bit picky here.Just got a reject for a couple of tyres.Fair enough one would think until!Went and had a good look to see which were the best to keep etc and they all look ok to me, all well worn but nothing obvious. So got the guage out and the worst was 2.2mm on inner edge of a front tyre.Am i correct in thinking that the min is 1.5 across all the main groves of the tyre!
Other item was "front pads low"Would anyone think 6mm of material is low!

red97, Jul 2, 7:28am
did a truck driving course a while back and had to do a pre start check of truck. on the polytechs truck the number plate light wasnt going and i pointed it out, instructor said it wasnt a legal requirement!

unbeatabull, Jul 2, 7:31am
Rear number plate lights are a legal requirement. How many actually check them is debatable!

Love it. bloody pervy plumbers huh !

scuba, Jul 2, 7:50am
why would you not charge for doing a job properly!

carmedic, Jul 2, 7:54am
It's called customer service, I do the same only charge $57.50.

supernova2, Jul 2, 7:56am
I think it used to be called "customer service" or "goodwill".can backfire though I remember about 30 years ago NZMC doing a wof on my mini and finding a dead front park light."We'll just fix that for you".About an hour later and new bulb and light assembly - park light working but no blinker.WS manager then asked if I'd like to sort it myself.Yep.Did .Usual Mini story - wiring in the wheel arch, broken wire which I'm guessing only manifested itself when they starting pushing and shoving to get the rusty bulb out.In todays terms that bit of "goodwill" probably cost about $200 to the W/S.

carmedic, Jul 2, 7:56am
Basically they have to put the price up; I??

Yes, but some of them are bloody stupid.I took a trailer to VTNZ for a WOF check. I had hooked it up to a small truck ,checked it all out myself, before i took it there, everything worked, including all lights.
I was in the waiting area, watching through the window and actually saw the guy uncouple the trailer and light plug during the check.
He failed it ,said none of the lights were working.
I asked him if he would come back out with me and quickly recheck it, as they were working when i got here, and he may not have put the plug back in properly. He said, i didn`t take it out and no, it`s not my job, when you get it fixed, bring it back .it`s a fail.i put the plug in properly, drove around the front again and had to wait in a long queue for a recheck.
I drive an extra 30kms to a different VTNZ workshop now, with all our vehicles.

poppajn, Jul 2, 8:37am
