One trick I do know, if you lose a gear completely, go into the highest in the present range and work back down. Sure beats stopping completely on SH1 (yes I have held up traffic there, guilty!)[/quote
hey SAS, iv had to stop on the huka bridge at taupo with my mate and GF pissing themselves , so will never do that again (hopefully)Im working with oil tankers now .

There are some of us around. I started out on a commer 4 wheeler with the TS3 2 stroke motor. Iwas carrying rubbish bins you use to place your steel heavy ramps down connect them into the holes at the back of the deck rasie the hoist and winch the bin on . Great trucks in there days. Then I go on a 6 wheeler commer carrying diggers. Then moved to a bedford 6 wheeler rubbish compactor. Drivers these days have it so easy compared back to the old days. Commer 6 wheelers with trailers behind them and no exhaust brake of any kind just the gear box and foot brakes. The good old days in which you did not have the god squad chaseing you.

For me it was Traders, Commer Knockers then ultimate luxury TK Bedfords lol. Do love jumping in a modern truck for a drive every now and then tho. As for "god squad" a nessary evil in this day and age. Far too many operators out there still willing to cut corners and do dodgy things to operate without them

Only if you skip a gear in autoshift. Same with Volvo I shift and the daf with the ZF astronic, so it can grab the next gear quicker.

Just had stint in a Volvo I shift and previously drove a Iveco autoshift. Give me a 18 speed roadranger anytime much better and you actually drive them.

Love the sight of big trucks trundling along the highway but I will leave the truck driving to you guys. Keep on trucking guys, (and girls!) you do an awsome job.
