Well judging by the fact that 99.9% of all engines produced are piston driven I would have to assume that no, rotary's are not the best engines in the world.

I seem to recall reading recently that Mazda wasn't making any more rotary engined vehicles but I could be wrong - was once before.

yep, apparently Ford are picking up the concept and going to start producing it as their main stream engines now in place of their V8's.

It's impossible to get them to pass modern emission standards. An oil injected motor isn't viable in a road car.
