Is what a mechanic told me a while ago.I was changing a pair of wiper blades for a lady in the car park outside the parts shop where I work.According to him I should have sent her to his workshop to have them changed.

morrisjvan, Aug 23, 2:30pm
do his children eat wiper blades!

sandypheet, Aug 23, 3:22pm
Ahh,its called customer service isnt it.

trogedon, Aug 23, 4:15pm
You did a good deed and he's laying on the guilt trip. The man's an idiot.

purple666, Aug 23, 4:20pm
He didn't like the competition, if anyone should be taking the food out of childrens mouth it is him.

whqqsh, Aug 23, 4:26pm
beware, youll get a warning for using 'F's, especially if certain gutless Nanas spot it

richardmayes, Aug 23, 4:50pm
If his children were starving, why wasn't he at work!

saxman99, Aug 23, 5:27pm
Erm, are we quite sure that aforementioned mechanic wasn't extracting the urine!

casper35, Aug 23, 5:29pm
He would have ripped her offfor doing it to.

mothergoose_nz, Aug 23, 5:32pm
is he a dud mechanic.i thought they were all busy.the good ones anyway.

carmedic, Aug 23, 5:32pm
That??

bjdw, Aug 24, 5:15am
unfortunatley he was being serious. He's a bit of a woman in that he gets on the rag now and again.

hyphen, Aug 24, 6:07am
He was probably talking 'tongue-in-cheek', but people don't 'get it' now days, part of the dumbing down to make everybody instantly aggro. Why not simply give a smart-ass retort! That's probably what he was winding you up for, I do it all the time, but the younger, semi-educated seem to miss the point and take it personally, like whining, spoiled brats.
Or I could be just winding you up with this post, aye!

mrfxit, Aug 24, 6:52am
LOL yea, todays teen's who think they are MEN because they have turned 18, seem to have an over the top reaction to outsiders (outside of THEIR kindergarten group) & a lot of the "extractingthe urine"that we call humour.

whqqsh, Aug 24, 7:09am
I cant see such an event being any form of humour, especially in front of a customer. But we'll have to watch that others dont have the same attitude when helping people, like giving someone a tow (taking food out of towies childrens mouths), roadside repairs or giving someone a lift to get petrol (mobile mechanics), loaning someone a trailer (hire companys) & even helping an old lady carry some potting mix bags to her car as I did yesterday. we're all going to impact on someones life good or bad, but as already stated the good ones wont worry

family.first, Aug 24, 10:23am
Or picking up your pizza rather than being delivered. Or making your own burgers rather than buying from BK or McD. Can be here all day lol

johnf_456, Aug 24, 11:10am
Bad day!

fordkiwi27, Aug 24, 1:29pm

I too i am very gratefull for all advice I have received through this MB. A big thumbs up too you and all of the other knowledgeable people in here who give up their own time FREE to help backyard mechanics like myself when we are unsure of how to proceed. I use garages when I have to, and would rather pay slightly more for someone who will actually diagnose and fix my problem in a decent amount of time due to their knowledge. However being mechanically minded myself (and an aircraft Technician) I like to to things myself when I can and my tools permitt, save a dollar too which is always good.Just when it comes to diagnosing engines- I can work out faults on the gas turbine engines I work on, but when it comes to my car engine I am sadly not as knowledgeable.

Again BIG THANKS- and please do not feel everyone asking questions in here is out to persecute mechanics.

elect70, Aug 25, 10:48am
The mech is right , where would we be if everyone did everything themselves .In a trip to Hawaii the mrs got told off by house maid for making the bed in the hotel .Ihad told heryour not at home now leave the room as is .

johnf_456, Aug 25, 1:45pm
While I agree bob1120, just ignore the idiots. I am like yourself also with a lot of knowledge and experience but there is other trades where professionals are happy to exchange information. But like with anything in life you have the descent ones and the ones that give the good guys a foul name. I will continue to help people, mechanics are not cheap so to to help someone do proper job it may be the difference between food on the table or not. We all no how tight money is, there is always money to be made in motoring of any form.

saxman99, Aug 25, 3:14pm
Well I for one will be sad to see you go bob, this MB will be the poorer for it. If I lived in your area all my business would be yours for the taking. Many thanks for all your most helpful and brilliant advice about all things Bavarian thus far.Cheers from the sax player.

carmedic, Aug 25, 6:56pm

mugenb20b, Aug 25, 7:27pm
No, jet engines don't have tappets.
