i recall that, 1 was a real bleep of a guy and a few years later made the news for dodgy business dealings .

if you got nabbed by the mt albert cops ( they had widetrack bluebirds as patrol cars) you got ticketed NO exceptions. mt wellington lot were pretty fair , mind you i had dealings with most of them as they bought tyres for their bikes off us.

You've lost me. Please clarify how accumulation of demerit points inrelationship to fees improves road safety.

Ok, I'll try again. Please explain how accumulation of demerit points in inverse relationship to fees improves road safety.

Then what is your point! They already extort from lots of motorists and in return we get lax service if something "real" happens. What is the point of spending more to get minimal returns, because it irks you! I'd prefer to see more balanced policing with less emphasis on fines and more on serving the community and treating it as a duty. Plus the aforementioned backpay, no one is losing out on anything at all or at least at very low numbers.

We had local council traffic cops here in Napier a few years ago. They seemed to do their job ok from what I could see.Had a prang outside our house a while ago now and the local guy wasted no time in getting onto his back to wriggle into the upturned car to turn off the ignition. They were absorbed by MOT.Also if you can't afford the licence or WOF for your vehicle, you can't afford to drive the car.Priorities!

omg you read between lines dont you , firstly i've not mentioned unsafe cars nor have i mentioned anything about "extorting" money . all i'm saying is there may be benefit in reinstating councils traffic depts to actively patrol the suburban streets making there presence known and where needed apprehend offenders that currently get away with breaking traffic laws coz theres seldom any cops around to catch anyone in the act.

I didn't realise until the beginning of the month that having an unwarranted and unregistered vehicle on the road incurred demerits.

Personally that sole prospect has stopped me, for the time being.

No WOF, No Reg, No License (For the class) and I'm sure they'll make sure they have something else. But effectively, for all these in total, it'd probably mean insta-loss-of-license plus an even bigger fine.

I've stopped besides the fact until the need rises to actually move house.

Bring back the MoT. A division that KNOWS ENGINES AND VEHICLES. Not just how to spray pepperspray and pray that it hits, resort to tazer, then baton, and cuff, and so-on.

MoT !

guilian, Aug 30, 2:25pm
Just to be clear, Remember, Highway patrol, aren't MoT. The MoT got removed, then the Highway patrol were brought in for pursuits and motorway dealings (Keeping them clear and safe).

An unneeded shuffle.

Over many, many, years, they got totally out of hand and were no more than acouncil revenue-collecting force, indeed, a private army.
Normal laws never applied to them in their pursuit of drivers and ticket quotas and money, and it was pointless arguing against tickets in court as the judges always accepted their evidence without question.

Was the best thing to get rid of the crooked lot.

You have an unlicensed lawnmower! You utter cad! Plus no wof! Hangings too good for the likes of you!LOL

Under this new regime, all powered vehicles will require a VIN or similar scan-able (or was that scam-able!) plate. You'll pay based on engine size and 2-strokes pay triple for pissing me off with their noise. How else can the govt make more money from us. Tax us more, please!Besides, boats really should have a wof etc, judging by the state of some of the boats I see launched from here. I know I'd not set bum in many of them going out to sea.

I get pulled up so often it would make your head spin, lots of police around. Besides you don't have to sit there oh so helpless, if you see a car with no rego leave a note or if you note bad driving report it yourself. Woe is me if society was self regulating to a point, people could keel over and die from the responsibility of it all.
