Gosh it seems to me -(other side of the counter) that you can't even do that.Ie you can't say-your ball joint needs replacing etc. You have to say -play in steering area etc.Darned frustrating when I just wanna fix the darned thing

I got a 3.0 a fortnight ago, was very happy. Lighting is the big one at the moment.

I think where NZTA are coming from is making sure that you come across as objective as possible. They also want you to make it as understandable as possible to someone not familiar with automotive tech terms.IMO if a person intending to undertake a safety related repair on a vehicle that cannot understand for example what a worn upper control arm bush or a leaking brake proportioning valve is then they should not be touching it!

Hi,Anyone recently been auditted, and if so are there any stupid pet traps they are using at present.I know we will be ok with the audit but they usually have some stupid fault that they pick on.

we had one a few months ago and they went quiet hard on the beam setter rules
zephyrheaven,

beam setter is always a bug bear, just get used to using it I guess - last time the cheeky prick moved my dial around!

Yes a couple of months ago also, I got quizzed about use of beam setter quite hard, with which I was fine. I actually think I taught him how to check them quickly; either that or he was surprised I could check them so fast and do it properly. I was marked down on checking head rests, I said I was checking they were secure, and nothing sharp protruding etc. but didn??

Bumping for any current "favourites", got an audit coming up shortly. In the past I've been checked for proper testing of rear reflectors with a torch, checking of seatbelt mounts where visible on the floorpan/wheelarches, load testing of steering joints engine running/not running in power steered vehicles, and parcel shelf tampering, ie the enlargement of speaker holes where it shouldn't happen.

And dont forget to smile at Mr Lister.Pull the plugs on the backing plates and dont forget brake hoses under pressure, look up under the dash around the pedals and steering shaft uni joint.

That an interesting one, depending on the car not all cars make a hiss. Especially some of the older cars I have noticed with a tight lid. But we just say check.

It does make you wonder how many people NZTA think have gone to the trouble of setting up an automotive glass manufacturing plant only to make glass that doesn't meet the standards doesn't it!I can only recall coming across one windscreen ever in 14 years of WOF's that must have somehow missed being etched, had 2 other AVI's look at it from all sides and angles and blowed if any of us could see the marking (no it wasn't in front of the licence label). It's hardly a big issue I'd have thought.

Dont forget to check all of the roof on a van too.

I've watched VTNZ doing WOF checks on my cars many times (I always stand outside and keep an eye on them) and have never yet seen anyone pull the plugs on the backing plates!
